Tungsten fresnels are fine, but everyone seems to ask for LED these days. I'm happy to work with either one. I have a set of Sola 4 LED fresnels. They don't get hot - won't melt the portabrace - won't blister paint on a ceiling bounce and can be found used for half the retail price. The 5600 daylight from the Sola 4 yields nice color on the C300MKII cameras I work with so I've come around to embrace the LED overall.

I don't know the difference between a neutral density filter and polarizing filter, but I have not noticed any color shifts with the Singh-Ray scalable ND.

I'm using Singh-Ray Variable ND. I find it to be an essential item for shooting cinema on the 5D mark 2 in bright sunlight. It offers about eight stops.

Peter: Thanks for posting your experiences with the Ikonoskop DII. I've been very interested in this camera because it's small and light and shoots 2K in PL mount. Which lenses are you using on it and how is it working out for you? Does it do slow motion? AGain, thanks for posting.

The eyecup on the Beaulieu 4008ZMII has disintegrated. Does anyone know where I can find a new one that will work on this camera?

The housing and interchangeable lens mounts is a major selling point for me since I want to be able to switch from film to digital as needed. Some of the lenses are quite slow [T 3], but perhaps that is less of an issue with the digital sensors and new Vison 3 emulsions. Another selling point is that each lens has the same size front so less fooling around with different sized filters when the matte box is off the unit. Mitch, I'll be in touch. I'm curious to know if you can get me a good price on a set. I would buy them mail order from New York to save on taxes.

Thanks! Operating this camera with a zoom on it does not sound fun, but with a retrofocus 5.9 or 10, it could come in handy.. I may try to snare one. By the way, the still images in those manuals...hilarious!

Thanks. What do I need to know about the various R16 models? Which one is the one to have and how do identify it? The Eclair is definitely more of an investment. It seems reasonable to think one can get an R16 and have it fully overhauled these days for around 1000.usd - making it somewhat disposable and good for shooting in "risky" locales.

Does R16 have variable frame rates? I have a Beaulieu 4008ZMII (overhauled by Bjorn) that is just a superb little camera that shoots from 2 to 60 fps and can do speed ramps. Is there a 16mm equivalent to the 4008 ZM? Eclair ACL seems like a nice option too. Isn't the ACL the smaller Eclair? or is that the NPR? I haven't used Eclair... I know one of them has a turret that often sports a c and b mount. That could come in handy. Thanks for the replies.

Cinematographers, I have an Angenieux 5.9mm T2 lens in C-mount and really like the look of it, but need to find a good 16mm camera for it. I have used it on Bell and Howell Filmo DR and as luck would have it the culmination and focus is good, but cannot compose through the lens. Would Eclair be a good camera for this lens? Bolex EBM? I'd like to pick up a reliable low-budget cam to use with the lens as a dedicated wide-angle set up for my documentary projects in far-flung locales. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
