  1. I have too many Super 8 cameras to bother considering the new one, but its steadiness looks interesting. That Logmar video is the best Super 8 footage I've ever seen. Sharp as ever, and you can even see the fine detail in the grass, bricks on house, etc. Gives 16mm a run for its money.
  2. Another option is Niagara Film Lab in Ontario. I've used them a couple times now. Not sure how clean they are compared to other labs though. Scanning is okay, though I did notice something weird with their Super 16 scanning. Pricing doesn't seem bad.
  3. I have digital files, like a 16 bit or 24 bit Wave file for sound, and want to attach it to my video. I'd be using Premiere Pro (newest version). How does one get frame accurate sound sync using non linear editing systems? I'm wondering with a wave file, how do you select a portion of that file and sync it to its exact frame to start? Back in the old days one would use a linear video system, punch in your in points on both source and master. Then it adds the audio to the tape to the frame you want it to start at. And you can play around with it till you match up the frame and audio to where you need it. Keep in mind there is no slate audio clap board on my files, so I can't match it from that. I really need to play around till it looks synced up. So again how do you do this on non linear editing programs? I still might end up doing the work on a linear video system to make it easier if I can't figure this out.
  4. Good info Perry. Wanting the 10K scan is the reason you mentioned about 8K monitors. I'm thinking future proof there too. Let me know if you get this scanner. I'll get the HDR option with the 10K scan for best results. Perry- compared to 5K, how much space do you think a 10K 16 bit DPX file will be?
  5. Its a shame it was digitally done instead of optical prints. 4K is no where near the rez of true 65mm origination. At best its not close to 35mm limits either. So in this case I wouldn't be too excited for the 70mm prints struck. 8K would have been better in this case, which was a possible option. I think Lawrence of Arabia had a 70mm print struck from the recent restoration efforts, and it too I think was only 4K. 70mm is so much better then 4K. I'd rather see Robert Harris' 70mm print from Lawrence. At least that was optically done. Since there is an 8K scanning and film out option for 65mm/70mm, I don't see why they don't take advantage of that. Why cut costs when using 65mm just to be lazy about the way its shown in theaters? It makes 70mm look not as good as it could. And with Dunkirk recently shown in 70mm, we know what the film format can do.
  6. https://protekvaults.com/digital-scanning-for-motion-picture-film/ Here is a page from Pro-Tek Vaults. Perry- let me know if you guys get the new machine. Im going to wait to scan my films again until this is available for Super 8. And I'll automatically get HDR with it.
  7. I scanned my Super 8 at 5K at Gamma Ray D. and even at that rate I can see the difference. It may not be super detailed, but as the other said- the image is smooth and clean looking. Even at 5K the grain doesn't show much on bright sections of the film (like sunny day shots). I'd like to see what 10K can do. 10K can be scaled down to 8K, whenever 8K becomes a normal use standard. It may be overkill, but the difference is still noticeable. Someone said 35mm has more rez then even todays scanners can do, so I imagine Super 8 would still be improved on a 10K device. I downscaled my 5K material to DVD and then to VHS. Its amazing how much rez you lose doing to lesser formats. VHS looks really bad compared to the 5K stuff. Here is my 5K material downrezzed to 4K MP4:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLU6kMX5ZB8
  8. Pro-Tek Vaults in California. They do 16 and 35 on the new machine. He said he'd notify me when they can also do Super 8.
  9. I found one place that has the new 10K scanner, but they don't do Super 8 on it yet. Apparently they've only sold one of these machines so far.
  10. Not no lens is included with this package. Just a battery and magazine with camera. Camera ran ok when I put a roll through it. Nice and quiet.
  11. Selling a used Switar 10mm lens meant for use on Reflex 16mm Bolex cameras. Open to offers for price. Contact me with PM and we can work out a deal.
  12. Selling an Arri SR 2 that had been CLA'd a bit by Bernie at Super 16 this past May. I am finishing putting a roll through it to confirm operation. Comes with a Bescor 12V battery and 1 good magazine. There is a spare parts magazine as well, but it needs parts. This is a regular 16mm camera- not Super 16. Comes with Arri mount on lens. Shipping will be from BC Canada. Asking $2300 obo. You'll need a lens to finish this combo. Servicing alone with all charges came to $1000 Canadian for me. Camera seems operational with the use I've put it through. Has a CCD video assist camera attached, but I cannot confirm that video camera works, as I don't have the cabling/power for it. Shipping costs are on top of price. Payment by PayPal with you covering the fees. My price is in Canadian dollars, so US buyers will pay exchange rate on our dollar. Pictures of camera available upon request.
  13. Solution found. You have to press some pressure on the eyecup itself, which opens the iris blades to see through. Once I did that I could see the image from the lens. Thank you for helping me with this guys. Im glad this thing isn't broken.
  14. Im not sure where the eyepiece iris is. Bernie said he got it working, but wasn't sure why Im not getting an image. So somewhere Im missing something that people who know this camera would notice.
  15. Bernie from Super 16 suggested to try and rotate the ring behind the viewfinder. There are two rings. See picture. Tried both but didnt see any change. The settings on this camera seemed to be so messed up from me figuring this out, that one thing seems to be affecting the next. So I can't confirm proper operation of the viewfinder.
  16. Tried posting more photos but Photobucket is giving me the warning about 3rd party sharing. So this is all I can show you.
  17. I found a lever switch on the t-bar which made me think that was what I was looking for. Tried it. No dice. Really don't know why it doesn't affect the prism, unless it needs power to work.
  18. The camera has a dual outlet bar, one for each side, with the center holding both ends. I don't see any switch that would direct light. I have read video assists can lessen light, but the viewfinder is completely black. I don't see light coming through to the mirror either when I shine light through the viewfinder. So somewhere the light it being blocked. How I don't know. I don't see anyway of turning the t bar. It seems to be in place without movement. I did email Bernie about this. Funny he never mentioned anything about it before.
  19. Guys got the camera working with a new battery and its pushing film through. My only issue now is I can't get an image through the viewfinder, even when I rotate the mirror. I confirmed the lens is letting through light. There is a video assist on the opposite side, so Im not sure that is interfering with the viewfinder? What can I try to get an image? I can't focus or shoot anything if I can't see what Im looking at. Nothing is in the SR2 manual with this issue.
  20. Shame you didn't contact me. I have a Switar 10mm I'd sell for not expensive.
  21. Anyone have any updates on this yet? Perry- what was your decision in regards to getting one of these units?
