  1. You don't like the RED system? What did you find wrong with it? Looks like i'll just have to buy a tripod for my current camera and worry about others down the line. I just wished i could find a decent used one for a decent price.
  2. Hello, I'm debating buying my first tripod for my Canon XL2 but also want it to last for a bit when i eventually get a basic HD system with 35mm adapter (Panasonic P2 or Sony EX1) Does anyone have any suggestions on brands? I'm looking at the following: Vinten Vison 3 Double Stage System http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...um_Tripod.html Cartoni Cartoni F106 Professional Tripod System http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...al_Tripod.html I'm trying to make my money go towards the best equiptment for price. Does anyone know any place that has better pricing than B&H? I just joined the reduser group and want to learn from all of your vast experience pool!
  3. I meant it in case any "perfectionists" wanted to pounce on me for not recomending a 10K+ lighting kit for the guy. I use Lowell all the time. They're great for being light weight, compact and flexible.
  4. same here. I am in need of some lighting DVD goodness.
  5. are you looking for film or video? Under 1000 is not much for either.
  6. A really great book that I've learned a lot from is Motion Picture and Video Lighting by Blain Brown. It as lots of pictures to explain what he's talking about. It goes thru tons of different fixtures, styles of lighting, power distribution and even has lighting plots for several scenes from famous films. I really enjoy this book and keep it close when I need to look something up.
  7. I would even try putting a 2K Tungsten Fesnel outside the window and blast the light thru it. It won't matter much that its orange because light that early in the morning is orange. And if you need to cool it down just slip some CTO in there. The color balancing with the CTO swatches is a neat trick for run and gun shooting when you dont have the time to properly light your set. If you have the time its better to color correct the individual light so you have more control.
  8. I'm not going to be one of those guys who asks a bunch of questions to a newbie and gets them all down and confused. Check out Lowell: http://www.lowel.com/kits_multi.html These kits are great for beginners. You can shoot alot with a standard DV camera and experiment with them. They have a lot of versitility and are very portible. I've used them alot on shoots and even alot of professional production people use them because they're so portable. Don't overwhelm yourself, I know the feeling. After a few hrs of research your head is swimming. Just get a lowell kit and start lighting. When you want to expand your horizons you can work into getting a mole richardson kit or an arri kit. There are tons of other kits such as Kino-flo kits, (florescent lights) and various other soft light kits. But don't worry about those right now. Just get started with the basics. Go out and play! experiment.
  9. I need to buy a case to transport my lights/gear in. I have the following: 2 Mole Richardson 1k baby solarspots 1 Teenie-Mole open faced 650watt 1 Vari-Beam 500watt light Model #7750, (not sure what this is, was given to me) 2 Avenger A410B Aluminum Baby Heavy Duty Light Stands scrim kits, barn doors, etc. I'd like to be able to fit these all in one case with wheels and a handle. I've had a difficult time finding a good case on the net. I can't find anything specifically that will fit all of this. Can anyone help? Offer any suggestions? I'm also buying those 2 aluminium Avenger stands to hold my baby 1k's. Are these ok stands? I've never used them and am having a hard time deciding between aluminium and steel stands. Any suggestions?
