  1. Hello, A few days ago, my interest for Super 8 was revived due to some reading on the Internet. I was shooting Super 8 when I was a teenager, that's 20 years ago. I recovered my good old Canon 514 XL-S which was hiding in my grandmother's attic. All its accessories are still there and the camera looks in great shape. The lens is clean and intact. The only missing items are the box and the manual. In a bag full of old junk I found a cartridge of Ektachrome 160 Sound which was open. The box says "Process before 06/1989". Well, I loaded it into my camera and put new batteries : a set of 6 Duracell Ultra M3. I'm not expecting to get good colors out of it since the cartridge has been exposed to air for about 20 years, but I just take it as an opportunity to test all mechanical and electronical functions of my camera to see if it is still fit. Unfortunately, nothing happens ! I double-checked that I put the batteries in the appropriate order, but no tension seems to go through the camera. The "Battery check" doesn't even work, nor does the aperture indicator in the viewfinder. I don't remember my camera not working the last time I had my hands on it. But then again, it was 20 years ago. I may have forgot a lot about it... What do you think the problem could be ? Any idea or advise on how I could check it further ?
