  1. Sometimes while I am on productions, PA's and grips tape down my extension cables to the floor to prevent people from tripping on set. Unfortunately, throughout the day, the stingers get hot and cause the gaff tape to melt and leave a nasty gunk on them. Does anyone have any ideas on how to clean them? Thanks. 2. I believe they did this in a green screen setup in a studio. They built the background set, and set a dolly on a track. Then, they placed the actor on a fake bike in front of the green screen. The art department also placed some things in the foreground as well, possibly. I'm not entirely sure about this technique, but that's my best guess. Good luck. Cheers. Thomas
  3. I recently submitted a screenplay & video pitch to an online contest on Massify.com. The winner of this contest will receive partial funding for his/her film, as well as full access to shoot at the Ace Hotel in NYC. I happened to have a screenplay that was set entirely in a hotel and I entered it into this contest. If any of you have a few minutes and would be able to review my online video pitch and read my screenplay, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you could leave me any feedback, that too would rock. Once the contest is over, I'm going to tweak it a bit and direct it myself. If any of you have some input, please do share. Below is a link to my video pitch and screenplay. http://massify.com/partnerships/killerfilm.../theroomservice Cheers. Thomas Chaves

  5. Hi everyone. I've been a fan of CML for quite sometime and I really enjoy watching eveyone's reels and clips as well as learning how to light and grip. I think this online community is one of the tightest and brightest out there. Anyway, I recently submitted a screenplay & pitch to an online contest on Massify.com. 6. Hey there everyone. This upcoming Novemeber, I'll be key gripping on a feature and the producer is debating whether to rent or buy a generator. Ideally, we would like to have a 5500W generator. The average price for a Honda 5500W is about $200/day. I know Honda makes solid generators because I've used them on a number of shoots. Today, while I was at Home depot, I saw a bunch of generators ranging between 5500-8000W going for $900-$1300. The brands were Ridged, Husky, & Yamaha. Have any of you guys ever used these generators on your shoots? Are they trust worthy? What do you guys recommend? Thanks. 7. Hey dude. If I understand correctly, here is what you can get: A Cardellini or Mathellini Clamp If you would like to hand bounceboards or show car, you can also use a Quaker Clamp (AKA Duck-Bill Clamp)
  8. Hi everyone. I am looking for a Chimera speed ring and soft box for my Arri 650 and my Arri 1k. Can anyone send me a link to a place where I can find them. I was looking on the BH website, but all I could find was the speed ring, and not the soft box. Thanks.
  9. I am in search of a Crewing Agency, a producer, or someone who can recommend me for work on different productions being shot here in the Tri-State area. If I am hired for the production you (or they) recommend me to, I will pay you 10% of what I make (total) and pay you in cash. I will issue payment as soon as the production pays me. I would be more than willing to put this in writing and sign off on it. I feel that if someone can go out of their way to recommend me for a job, I will not have to work as hard on my down time looking for more work. I figure this works out well for both of us. I am a Grip/Gaffer with an extended cargo van, lights, and grip equipment. I own a lot of tungsten lights, kino lights, C-Stands, a skateboard dolly & track, bounce boards, etc. I also have an indoor garage where I park my van. The garage has 24hr access and 24hr security, so if a production chooses to leave equipment in my van overnight, they do not have to worry about any of it getting stolen or pay extra to park in a bonded lot. For a complete list of the equipment that I own and can provide, please visit my website at www.MastershotFilms.com. You can also email me and I will get back to you with a PDF list of all of my lights & equip. I have worked as a Gaffer/Grip for several years on different productions ranging from short films, music videos, commercials, features, documentaries, webisodes, etc. I have many references from my past clients that will attest to my strong work-ethic. These people are producers, cinematographers, directors, etc. I also hold a BA in Film Production. If you or someone you know would like to meet and inspect the lights and equipment, please let me know and we'll discuss a place and time to meet. You are more than welcome to visit my garage in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn as well.

  11. Hey there all of you cinemaphiles. I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me what the differences are between green & blue screen. When would you use one over the other? Is one necessarily better than the other? Is one easier to use than the other? Also, it seems like a lot of the green screen I see on TV looks cheesy. How do you get the most out of it? Thanks. Thomas
  12. Hi there. I am looking to pick up a set of lights for my G&E production van. I am looking for a small light source that I can use to light actors while they are in cars (or other tight spaces). Right now, I am deciding between a Litepanel Kit, the Kino Flo Miniflo kit, and a Lowel kit of sorts. Does any have and pro's or con's on any of these kits? Also, which one do you get the most for your buck. Cheers. Thomas
  13. Hey everyone. I'm gaffing a shoot in two weeks in a large office with a hell of a lot of fluorescent lights overhead and some pretty large windows. (We'll be shooting at night so that eliminates having to gel the windows). What kind of gel(s) would I need to throw in front of my 1K tungsten lights to more-or-less match with standard florescent office tubes. I also plan to use diffusion, either some Lee 216 or 250 to keep the lights soft. If you have any recomendations on a better diff to use along with the gels, please let me know. Thanks. 14. Hi there. My name is Thomas and I am a grip and gaffer living and working in NYC. I was wondering if anyone could offer some suggestions on where to buy used G&E gear. I am mainly looking for a jib, lighting kits, flag kits, clamps, etc. Thanks.
  15. Hi everyone. I am shooting a music video here in Manhattan in two weeks and I am looking for a G&E service to work my shoot. I need someone to deliver equipment to my set and be able to grip/gaf my shoot. I have heard of a company that company, Mastershot Films, does all this, but since I've never worked with them, I was wondering if anyone could recommend one first hand. If you have worked with them, what was your experience? Thanks.

  17. I am shooting a short film at the top of the Williamsburg Bridge tower in NYC. I will be using only one small (tungsten balanced) light bulb for one particular shot. I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations on a small portable generator that could be rented/purchased in the next few days. Thanks. Thomas Chaves
