  1. Any ideas? Just to give more info of what I'm talking about, David Fincher talked about it a couple of times, once in an interview when discussing different considerations for how to cover a scene, and once I saw BTS video of Robert Downey Jr. asking Fincher if the shot was going to be "inside or outside?". My guess is that outside would be more of a profile shot, and inside would be some kind of shot with the camera much closer to the actor's eyeline. Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this!
  2. Hi all, When discussing camera placement with respect to an actor's eye line, what does it mean to specify "inside" or "outside"? What does that actually look like? Thanks!
  3. In watching some behind the scenes video of David Fincher's various films, I noticed him calling for a "special" of a given actor, seeming to indicate a specific type of framing. Does anybody know what the term "special" means in this context? Can anyone call out a good book or resource covering this and other such intricate terms (beyond just wide, medium, two shot, etc.)? Thanks!
  4. I just saw a clip on TV featuring an interview with a photographer (Nigel Barker) in his studio. In the background behind him were a number of butterfly frames (probably 8x8', standing upright). The frames seemed to have wheeled supports attached to the bottom of the frame itself (not separate wheeled stands), which seemed sufficient for holding a frame upright. I've never seen a large frame like that with it's own wheels, (have always just seen the frame mounted to wheeled stands with risers) and was trying to find out who manufactures this and where it is available? Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks, Joel
  5. Thanks Scott and Evan, for clarifying the differences. This was really useful information. I think it's worth getting the select ballast then. Thanks very much to everyone who replied.
  6. I read today that the Foto-Flo version of the Kinos allows you to detach the fixtures individually from the housing. I'm guessing that the Select version of the Kino's don't allow that. I went to the Coollights website and a quick glance shows that the majority of the products are out of stock. What's up with that? Any comparisons would be nice.
  7. Judging from a photo of the ballast from each, I notice that the Select has 4 switches (one for each bulb), whereas the Foto-Flo 400 only two. Maybe this is the only difference. Does anyone know if there are any other differences? Regardless, I think the additional switches are worth the $200 price difference. Thanks, JC
  8. Hello, I'm looking to purchase a 4ft 4 bank Select for film/video work, but notice that at a local retailer the 4ft 4 bank dubbed Foto-Flo 400 is about $200 less exensive. Does anyone know what the differences are? Does the Foto-Flo unit skimp on any features? Thanks, JC
