  1. 5K will look better than 4K, thats even true for an HD finish displayed on an HD monitor, which surprised me when I first was doing camera tests.
  2. I did it in one eye, still slightly short sighted however I can easily drive & read uncorrected which at 51 is unusual. I don't have any issues at night however I would never do both eyes at the same time, it's too big a risk IMO.
  3. Thats the commercial rate, you can negotiate way better than that if you try. BTW this is a real name forum, you need to change your user name.
  4. I shot a music video in CH a few years ago, we had free 5 year old film & I provided an Ultracam 35 camera. Egli processed 5 years & did a Spirit HD graded telecine to quicktime for 2000 chf.
  5. To be quite honest, I suspect the average price paid for an Epic X brain without lens mount or SSD is rather less than $17,500. Stage 2 was a kit so the brain was about $10k , with Stage 3 brain only a lot less! The M owners paid more, but had a camera that was rare so will have had no problem getting their money back.
  6. Well I have had an Epic for 18 months, it's worked flawlessly & it's paid for itself so I am happy. I have used HDRX a few times, however I don't think it was ever used in post, so 13.5 stops has in reality been enough. I started my career shooting on Reversal 7240 VNF , so knowing how to expose probably helps. I took the plunge and ordered Dragon pretty much as soon as it was possible yesterday, I hope to recover the money in rentals in the 1st month or so whilst it's 'hot'. I shoot a lot of pack shots, I hope I can take the stills from the motion, which is my motivation for 6k. Most of my clients ask for 4kHD if there doing the post 'as home'.
  7. Drop outs on Beta SP were a nightmare, with the DigiBeta I never saw any, probably cleverly concealed.
  8. The shadows will only become noisy if you try to brighten the image. Ideally don't compress more than 5:1
  9. Hi Richard, Great thread, it's been so quiet recently, back like the good old days!
  10. I would use a 1/4 CTB on everything, What if the person stands on the green?
  11. I generally use 1/4 CTB on tungsten lights with Epic. For green scren 640 ISO & 5:1 or LESS compression. I very rarely black shade the camera, however have the camera on for 30 minutes before you do the black shade. You can always check if the camera needs to be shaded by increasing ISO whilst looking at black, if everything is even don't bother! If you use 12:1 compression, ISO 800 & no CTB you will find dark areas on skin are not so good.
  12. Last year I think I was owed 25% of my yearly earnings most of the time. This year has been better, almost everything has been paid on time, no idea why.......It probably won't ever happen again either!
  13. That price seems good, there have been several redesigns, which is probably why they are so good value. Ask Duclos to look at the lenses & see what he says!
  14. Double lab minimum & processing the following morning at 8,00am
  15. I doubt a PC screen is 50 or 60 native, there is a conversion going on. Earlier you said the problem only happened before the firmware are you sure?
  16. See what happens if the scan rate is 50hz. This monitor is a computer screen? I suspect it's native resolution is not 50 or 60, that could be an issue.
  17. Hi John, the lab asked if they could hold the film & process it when we shoot some more in 10 days time......They will process for a 100% surcharge which we will do.
  18. How are you looking at the footage? I suspect you monitors scan rate is not the same as the camera. As there has not been a firmware update you may have forgotten to change a preset, especially if the problem remains when wou roll back the firmware.
  19. I will tell you on Tuesday! For the last 3 years there was only 1, which processed on demand if pre-booked. Negative is generally quite dirty. Even 10 years ago 10,000 feet would have been a big day for the lab. Budgets are crap so shooting a commercial with 800 / 1200 foot is quite normal. Lab prices have always been much higher than London. If I know I will rap at 5, I can organize processing for 5.30, telecine 6.30 & be home for 8.00!
  20. My Epic rents for the same as an Alexa :D BTW Rolex used the Epic & Omega will use 35mm on Monday!
  21. I use V mount batteries, I have the action products Electra module so can hot swap, so about 5 seconds. If you had to power down the camera & change the battery then under 30 seconds. I think there are many amateur owned packages that get rented that are not well equipped for pro shooting.
  22. I think it's down to the production' companies workflow, companies who have been working with Red for several years want 5k & nothing else. I think Sony will find this the biggest hurdle however good their cameras are. I let the production company choose what to shoot, yesterday was Epic, Monday is 35mm film , sort of Rolex / Omega choice!
  23. I bought an Epic M, the camera shipped without delay, perhaps buying the 'premium' product is the way to go for you in future.
