  8. Hi, I'm doing a test shoot for a music video and documentary on the heavy-metal scene in Ottawa, Ontario. I have the EX-1. I was unable to put the iris servo to manual, even though all the settings have been put into manual on both the physical switches and in the menu's. Did I miss something? Before I call the rental house, I want to give it one more try, but time is ultra-tight (Maybe it's a mechanical failure?) Have been looking through the manual, but we are shooting another video today with 2 other camera's that are other makes. (before the test shoot tonight) Glenn
  9. Working with a production company as Editor and Cinematographer looking to buy a cine level 3D production package. We already have upcoming shoots with Red One. we are looking into doing cine/high-end HD level 3D digital. Have been looking at Red, CineAlta and Canon DSLR 5D MarkII & 7D. Any experience with these or other cameras shooting and lighting for 3D? (We mostly produce music videos, short docu's and drama's).
  10. Note: I used CTB, but mixed in 4 other types of blue to give the moon light shinning into windows, a textured look, depending upon location and effect desired. Some lights lit through 2 rooms and glass doors before reaching the talent. It looked amazing and blew away both the Director and Producer! (I'll look into getting a frame grab from the post guys. On this pic, I am very involved in the post-production and editing, which has been very educational). I'm shooting EXT. Daylight scenes next week on the same pic.
  11. I'm shooting a horror pic on the EX1 and my figured settings for night scenes, lots of blue (mix of pools of cool and warm light, many blue gels not CTB / fog and fx lighting are as above like above with a couple of extra tweeks: I use CINE 2 Gain -3db ND filter Off I rated the camera at ISO 400 (But shot it as if it was Eastman EXR500 and compensated in my light meter to show 400). In 1080p, shutter 1/48 for a real dreamy film-like look and watched the tracking/panning speeds closely to avoid strobing as much as possible. The images are stunning. For the first time I'm shooting HD like it IS film, not just shooting digital video in film production style! I really felt I was shooting film, so I pushed the camera and lit like I was shooting ISO 500 film.
  12. Update: Slept on the idea and came up with a better approach using the black-lite: The 2 cops are really undercover spooks, so I thought of simulating the saturated blue strip light used in the back window of embassy cars (To enable nite follow-on in a convoy), but instead of aiming it back, aim it to the back of the heads of the 2 suspects (safer for them, but I will flag the spill so I don`t get baked by the UV at the camera possition). The black actor sitting on the right back seat will turn his head to the right 90 deg. and into the pool of light that we want. He will only be exposed momentarly, even if we do several takes. The script calls for him to curse the cop through the right back window, so it will work well. I am also going to use a 300 w pepper with a saturated purple to use on faces forward of the BG BlackLight. I think posting it here stirred up my creative sleep!. Principle Photo starts tonight in Ottawa at 1930 est. Cheers!
  13. This is my first post. pushed the wrong button: I am just wondering about the safety factor mentioned. The black light I am thinking of using is the party bulb variety (75 watts) and I have also lit concerts using 24 of the 42 inch tube black lights. The shot is only a few seconds as the two actors are thrown into the back seat of the cop car. If I scrim or flag it to minimise the exposure to the eyes, would this settup be safe enought? Actor to bulb distance will be 2-4 ft. Thanks again.
  14. I'm shooting a cop drama (Draught of Violence) and was planning to use a light-bulb type 75 watt black-light in the cop car as the corrupt cops throw 2 suspects into the back seat. The director asked me to come up with a purple light FX on them. One is black and the other is white. Director wants a purple edge light around the black suspect. Camera is XL-1 with X16 lens. Lighting kit is 8 custom built MR16 (20-50w for inside the cars), 1 Kw Red head. 500 w Fresnel, custom par64 cans, 1 - 5 milloin candle pwr spot (Cop search light doubles as a key/FX light), plus a crate of assorted photo-floods for practicals and various other soft bounce lighting/fill rigs. Shooting at night. Have cash to buy/rent whatever is needed to make the fx work/gels/nothing too big. Thanks.
