  1. Just answered my own question! From Movie Speak by Tony Bill: ... barney appears to have been derived from the popular cartoon strip Barney Google, created in 1919. Barney Google, a sportsman involved in horse racing and boxing, had a horse named Spark Plug who was typically seen almost totally covered by his horse blanket.
  2. Does anyone know the origin of the term "barney" as it relates to a movie camera? A friend told me that it had something to do with the barney's resemblance to a hat worn by the old comic strip character, Barney Google. However, Barney Google wears a small hat. His friend Snuffy Smith wears the great big hat. So maybe this origin story doesn't quite add up... Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)
  3. Not sure when the last overhaul was, but we use Visual Products for our service needs. Thanks for the advice, though!
  4. My Arri 16s pressure roller is stuck in the "open" position. I've tried forcing it gently (is that an oxymoron?) but it won't budge. Pushing the button in the center of the assembly doesn't help, either. The pressure roller will kind of see-saw up and down, so that it can make contact with each sprocket drum. But I just can't get the darn thing to close. Any suggestions before I have to send it out for repair? Thanks!

    dead battery

Hey, first time poster here with a question about 16mm camera batteries. Hopefully this is the correct forum! I have a few Bescor PRB-12's containing Panasonic sealed lead acid batteries. They've been recharged many hundreds of times and no longer hold a charge. Should they be disposed or recycled? Or should they be repaired and re-celled? Where would be the best/safest place for each of these alternatives? Thanks!
