  1. i think 'rosy retrospection' may play a part in this, where you would judge older films less harshly than current films when i watch some of the older movies, i notice things that would not be accepted on set today - odd camera shake, sloppy dolly moves, flares, etc. but another part may be that earlier movies continually established the visual language which we use today. and with today's audiences becoming more visually savvy, due to the staggering amount of content we watch, you could argue that the language is becoming 'stale' in a way. but then again, something like 'gravity' or 'no country for old men' comes out, and they look astounding. or 'diving bell and butterfly' looks genius in the way it tells the story.
  2. the actual slate as a shot identifier will not disappear. i meant to act of the physical clapper will. hopefully. soon.
  3. i would think the opposite, that it's actually harder - directors now restart entire takes multiple times over without cutting, especially when we are pressed for time. longer digital takes still bear a cost - more storage, DIT stays later at end of day, transport waits longer for film&sound. but i cant say i have ever seen talent take heat in front of the crew for forgetting lines
  4. these reports are an anachronism anyway, same as slating. hopefully they'll morph into something more useful over the next decade, or disappear. in music vids and commercials there are no camera reports anymore (for digital work). nearly everything is noted by script supervisor, and vetted by DIT/DMT, before going out to the lab
  5. man, this is getting mucho complicado. you can write in camera reports whatever you want, so long as the rest of the people in the production workflow understand what you are writing down. same goes for the slates - i personally don't care what's written on them. that information is not for me, it is presented to others. i'm sure there are regional differences, but on productions i have worked on, where we had: 1. script supervisor on set, 2. a lab which processes/stores/creates dailies or otherwise works with the shot material, the camera reports simply reflect what was shot on the mag (this is for digital) - date - roll number - take number (not camera's clip number) - related notes have a look at the attached pic of one of my reports
  6. quick preface - i am making this ad on behalf of a friend who is a lens tech at a rental house and who did not want to make a public ad to avoid conflict of interest. i am not benefiting from this sale, as i will simply put you in touch with the person. cooke cinevarotal 25-250mm, mark II T3.9 PL-mount lens in located in toronto, canada asking price is $6500 USD more and higher-res pictures here https://www.flickr.com/photos/kyryll/albums/72157683493113225
  7. i'd go for a 10k lens... you can always find a body. if you are established in the industry, a friend may loan one. if you are in school, you can probably get one from them. the trick with camera is that you will always need extra bits to make it fully functional, and those extras add up mighty quick.
  8. get this https://www.genustech.tv/collections/camera-baseplates/products/universal-adaptor-bar-system-special the top of this adapter will screw into the eclair's 3/8 threaded hole the bottom can attach to the arri baseplate the rods you can see adjust up/down, and the plate supporting the camera will adjust left/right
  9. could any average cheeseplate do the trick?
  10. going to play captain google here, but may this site help? https://eclaircameras.wordpress.com/downloads/
  11. i would not be making a bridge-plate out of plastic (3d printers don't do metal yet, do they?) could you stop by a rental house and measure?
  12. i am happy to report that the lenses have arrived. that was really quick from the date they were shipped, and what i had been expecting from the start. i know there were people behind the scenes who know sergey and got him moving to send these out - and i have to say thank you to those people. what have we learned from this story? maybe don't buy from eastern europe, or maybe don't sell anything to a guy with two Y's and two L's in his name i personally think it always comes down to communication... even if there is a delay just be there for the client, don't be like dead air on radio
  13. how is the heden motor performing otherwise? i ask because i had a problem like you describe, but it soon degraded further when the heden motor would not stop during calibration (it would keep spinning). in my case it turned out to be a blown encoder in the motor, and heden serviced it very quickly also, i can't remember, these lenses focus barrel rotation is less than 360 degrees right?
  14. jah be blessed. the package is on its away afraid to ask what service, so i'll cross my fingers and merrily await the arrival
  15. artur, i am not naive, i know what lenses cost. but our buddy here made a public offer, and accepted my money for it. you can call it a gamble on my side, but i fulfilled my obligations. and i am telling a story of what is happening afterwards. and the update to the story is that a courier has picked up the lenses, presumably for shipment to me (i am guessing on the latter part) the real issue here for our salesman is incredibly poor communication with a client. even though both parties speak 2 languages.
  16. thank you mr. probyn! man, you and that nigerian prince from my emails are such nice guys
  17. thank you mr. kowalewski. i now understand life better. i would like the set of lenses that you are offering. please send it to my address. i will pay afterwards. i am a reputable member of cinematography industry, and i am in good standing with my IATSE local. i do not have any ulcers or other health problems, and in fact i do play sports regularly.
  18. yes yes, broken ribs... he told me on january 29th that was the reason he has not sent me anything yet, and he will that very day call a courier who will pick up the lenses and ship them. he is currently responding to his emails (after his broken ribs prevented him from replying to phone calls or using the said email...) the latest news - there is an optical issue with the 18mm. if he can't fix it by this sunday, he swears that he will send me the set without that lens, and then once the 18mm is fixed he will send it as well. or, to make up for the wait, he is offering a Kinor set of the same lenses (the ones i paid for are Konvas, which are older and with a worse engineering design). of course, the Kinor conversion to PL-mount should be done within 2 months so, should we place some bets, ladies and gentlemen? will these lenses arrive before the 1 year date is up? will they arrive ever (at my house, that is)? hey nothing is impossible - leicester city won EPL, cleveland won NBA, trump got elected, barcelona just made a historic win...
  19. in my conversation with sergey he did give norm's name as an example of a successful sale i genuinely hope that sergey is ok, and that would be the only excuse (if he were sick or in a hospital or something). but as it stands now, i am missing 3 things: they money, the lenses, and the seller...
  20. stanislav, i do not denigrate my description of scammer is related only to this failed transaction, and i feel it aptly describes the situation. now, jokes aside, i did speak with a person in russia who also knows sergey, and it appears that he may in fact have some problems with alcohol. which accounts for his appearing/disappearing acts. but hey, maybe i have a drinking problem too and could have really used those $5000 USD to purchase fine liquors myself. in any case, a scam is "fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; swindle." - dictionary.com and unless my lenses magically arrive at my house, sergey is still a scammer.
  21. yes i am sure he had a few successful sales in the past. probably was figuring out the system for money transfer across borders... judging from online, and speaking to some guys in russia, he has a few "sales" where he never bothered to deliver yet took the money
  22. yes paypal would have been better, but to dissuade people from using it, he charges a 10% fee for paypal use since i live in canada and his price was in USD, that would have made for a 35% increase in the cost paypal actually has helped me before when i tried to buy set bags from modular 51, and they refunded me quickly sergei lives in st. petersburg he has actually sent me his full address and bank information... so it's hard to understand if he is a shady scammer, or some artsy-type person who appears and disappears
  23. i would like to present the most noble audience of this forum with a sad and tragic story a story about hopes dashed, dreams crushed, and money lost i saw this post in october 2016, by Sergey Kravchenco http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=72967 he advertised a set of 6 LOMO spherical primes for $5100 USD, converted to PL-mount. i showed my interest, started a conversation, and it all seemed to go well. he was going to convert the scales to imperial, and i was going to buy him some bright yellow paint he needed to paint markings in the future. i did some quick research, and i knew that sergei has a very spotty reputation online. so yes, it was a gamble on my behalf. he must have had a successful sale to norm li years ago, because that is sergei's go-to reference to build trust. i wired a bank transfer on november 1, 2016. it is now 4 months later, end of february 2017, and my hero sergei has fallen off the map. naturally, there has been no delivery. back when sergei was responding to emails, he mentioned that he uses Optica Elite's (http://www.optica-elite.com) facilities. i had contacted OE, and they confirmed that sergei is a real person and they know him, although they are not affiliated with him. my contact at OE also said that sergei "tends to disappear" on occasion, and he even tried calling him on my behalf. so yes, if nothing else can be learned from this, then perhaps google's cache can store this message for future would-be purchasers from sergei kravchenco.
