  1. Hello all, A scene I'll be shooting soon calls for two drops of red wine to slide down the surface of a mirror and meet each other at a certain point. In the background of the mirror, we see two people out of focus. I am trying to get this shot completely in camera if I can. It's a tall order but I'd love to pull it off. So far I've been thinking of something I could smear onto the glass, like silicon gel, that would guide the drops toward each other at a predetermined point in the frame. I'm having trouble thinking of something to smear on the glass that would guide the drops effectively without being seen. I've pretty much ruled out any sort of solution using tricky rotating to guide the drops with gravity because the drops need to meet (coming from different directions) and we need to see the presence of the characters in the background of the reflection. I'm open to hear any idea no matter how ridiculous or loosely related!
  2. Hey guys, I am desperately looking for a video assist system for an SR2. It would be great if it was an eyepiece mounted tap, but I've only seen that once and am starting to wonder if it doesn't exist. I've talked to all the camera houses in LA that I can think of but it seems everyone's sold their SR2 gear. Alan Gordon does do a T-bar install/rental but its a bit pricey. Got any ideas on where I could find this? Surely someone out there owns one.
  3. Hi all, Almost all my experience is with film. In the near future I will be shooting a short on the Panasonic HPX3700. I am conducting a camera test this week and one of the things I would like to nail down is what ASA I believe I should rate the camera at. I often find that manufacturer's listed ratings are a tad high. I have a few other questions as well. If there is anyone who has experience with this camera, I would love to hear your opinions and advice. 1. What is the procedure for determining the ASA rating of a digital camera? 2. What kind of latitude can I expect out of this camera? I have been told that the proper term here is 'dynamic range', but what I want to know is how many stops over and below do I have before losing detail, not what the minimum and maximum levels of illumination are. Correct me if I'm wrong. 3. Is there a procedure for determining latitude? 4. How does white balance affect these results? Of course I would look for the sensitivity and latitude using "white" light, but does the WB setting change the sensitivity? I have the ability to view and/or grade the test footage in Autodesk Lustre. Thank you for your time and help. -Niels
  4. The Alpine Butterfly knot is pretty handy too. Learn how to make a Daisy Chain as well, although it's not really a knot.
  5. I am a senior cinematographer in Chapman's undergraduate program, and it is excellent. There are differences in the graduate program, but all the grad cinematographers I know are very satisfied. Like Mr. Mullen said, it's about knowledge and experience. Chapman does a great job of teaching both. The faculty are excellent teachers, and there are so many projects shooting that you can be on set Thursday - Sunday any week you like. As far as I can tell, the equipment is second to none.   6. Speaking of shooting in the mountains at the end of the day, 'Alpenglow' is a beautiful phenomenon that adds to the feeling of magic.
