  1. @ John Salim, yes that is a more affordable price, very interesting thanks for the link. @ Chris Millar, i do not understand exactly what you mean "resolution is resolution..." i have not yet seen a computer monitor that can compete with my 25 years old analog PAL 720x576 Sony PVM 2042QM monitor !
  2. So no cheap filmout chance eh ? Anyway thanks for your helps guys, i am resigned to videoproject it now. Regards. Rob
  3. Yes, it is a giant file size TIFF uncompressed 15 MB per frame. Years ago i did blow up some regular 8 Kodachrome frames to 16mm and they came out great.Only colors were faded but still very good. Festivals ? It could be an idea, but it is in italian language and should be subtitled al least.
  4. Hi Will, thanks for your reply. Well, the Ipad 3 screen looks far better detailed than monitor computer to me., so this idea. Anyway, yes the film archiving properties and film projection look was the spring that drove me. But 150Dollars /minute is out of my budget since this film is 90 minutes long with soundtrack ! Regards. Rob
  5. The original footage is regular 8mm scanned at 2K(got image sequence not continuous movie), then restored, cleaned and ready for projection. Now the (weird ?) idea is to print to 16mm film for projection ( i have already all 16mm camera and projector gears) instead of videoprojection (to buy or rent) Could it work ? Anyone experience ? Thanks. Roberto
  6. have a look http://www.ebay.it/sch/adaptall61/m.html?hash=item2c68279acd&item=190725987021&pt=Obiettivi&rt=nc&_trksid=p4340.l2562
  7. it will come a day when all of us can only eat canned food from transgenic crops, artificially flavored....
  8. well, my idea was exactly to avoid mechanical shifting because i am building my own scanner with 3 RGB filters ( so 3 exposures for each frame) and i am not sure that even the best scanner ever can be so mechanically perfect at pixel level ( correct me if i am wrong).
  9. The best scanning method is via a line scan camera. Now if we have an area scan sensor but with line scan technique we could avoid all drawback of mechanical shifting. Is it possible? via software ? Rob
  10. Are years by now that I use rechargeable Kaccema cartridges, and I am very pleased with the results. The frames are more stable and no risk of blockage of the film. Also save on purchase of film (bought in rolls from 60 Metres). I also introduced some customizations that make easier dragging the film: first of all I put rollers in every points of friction, I expanded the pressure window, originating from 27.5 mm to 35 mm, since the film rubs too hard in the edges of this window . Third I put silicone oil in the roller of rewinding wheel, thus exerts softer resistance now as if there was a ball bearing. Essentially the only point of friction should be in the film pressure plate, in the other points the film should run with minimum friction as possible. Roberto
  11. EDIT: the IMAGE will be stright but the movement will be reversed
  12. so interior shots with Beaulieu 4008 eh ? that camera (one of the best s8 cameras ever by the way) has a fast shutter, assuming you are shooting at 24 or 25 fp/s, not good for interior shots, even with 1600+ 500 watts diffused lights. I would go manual esposure for sure, and near full aperture, just an f/stop after full aperture, let's say at f2.8 ( wich lens do you will use BTW ?) The V3 500 will do the rest thanks to its wide dinamic range. Remember that a little overesposure (if any) is better than under. Regards. Roberto
  13. You must turn the camera upside down, then when editing the footage turn the film upside down: the action will be stright but the movement will be reversed. Rob
  14. Ciao Giorgio, the problem could be only some dust in the viewfinder route. After periscope prism, the image pass trough a 90° prism then converge in a point . In this point there is a first focusing area where it is possible to put a reticle or whatever that you will see on focus within the image coming from ground glass. From your pictures it could to be so. Anyway the images on film frame are free of this issue. Regards. Roberto p.s. the Bolex EBM is a wanderful beast camera, do not send it back !
  15. It is the first time that i read this . May be that i am missing something but i always believed that S16 "eats" easily HD. Anyway, i have seen with my eyes beautiful 35mm prints that i scanned. When i asked wich 35mm camera they used they answered S16...
  16. Bah, another electronic expensive toy ! An inflation of K resolution. And the predecessor FX100 ? Ready for trash ! The digital cinema is switching to consumistic cameras production. After my (bad) experience about, i will not finance this market never more. Roberto
  17. Yes, i did it. But before i had to unscrew the metal aluminium ring (where the "switar" is stamped) to have the aspheron closest to lens, otherwise you get heavy vignetting. Moreover i had to machined a new ring : now the aspheron screw in the place of metal aluminium thread. In fact the aspheron lens and front element of switar must be cosest. Iris open not more than f2.8 otherwise you get edges out of focus. Best sharpness at f5.6. Here i can't upload pictures, but if you let me know your email i will send you. Regards. Roberto
  18. Hi Richard is it possible to do the contrary ? To overexpose and pull-process to lower the grain ? Regards. Roberto
  19. Hi Flavio, i never put my hands on Arri cameras. I think to have not problem to make conversion ( S16 ?), but i should do a look before to say anything

  20. Hi all i was tired to make people questions, curiosity, hilarity whenever i shot with my vintage equipment. With this mixup camera i should pass unobserved. The camera is a Super8 Nalcom FTL, the lens and mount come from a pro camcorder, the viewfinder from a VHS camera , the handle from a Bolex EBM . The B/W microcamera(in the side) focus into a microfine ground glass , so the image in the electronic viewfinder is a bit crappy, but there was no other way to get a precision focusing. Unless to fit inside a really ultramicrocam in the groundglass plane. I experimented also an optical viewfinder , but it was too triky and heavy. Again there was the coerent fiber optic solution (image conduit) but too expensive. The idea is to shot at 36 fps then telecine in hd 1280x720P at 50fps (once in the timeline some alternate frames are doubled to match 50fps from 36fps of the cinecamera, correct me if i am wrong). The question is: in FCP 6.0.1 there isn't the editing timebase preset of 50 fps. How can i solve this? best regards Rob http://vimeo.com/gro...view_file:11585
  21. Hi, do you mean this ? http://immagini.p2pforum.it/out.php/i421999_U16Area.jpg
  22. Hem, deleted the clip for mistake, here the new link http://vimeo.com/30012658
  23. Hi Todd the purchase of cinevia is 2001. It was no problem. They shipped promptly. Andy, my bolex had trasportation issue too, it is the spring of pressure plate. To me It must be replaced with a softer spring (by my test). As you can see in this clip (aside the perforation issue) the steadiness seems to be good. For sure Jean Luis Seguin can help you. Regards
  24. Hi Charles well, the other side is ok, so this issue is only in the first half. The steadiness of the frames appair to be good. Moreover i like the look of this film, although it is overexposed. I Hope that other reels i have are ok !
  25. My first shot with this filmstock. Cut 10mt from a 30mt reel to test film/camera(Bolex Ds8). Home processed/telecined. May be some mistakes in processing/exposure, but the weird thing are the perforations:look at the left side... Could someone understand what it may be happened ? I don't think it is a processing issue (Lomo spiral tank). Regards Rob http://vimeo.com/29827255
