  2. Yes i but i am not impressed by DI anamorphic S35 blow ups ,so dont hold up a lot of hope from a 2perf . Prehaps in time , but not yet .john holland.
  3. The main reason Techniscope looked so good in th 60s/70s was the dye transfer Technicolor Prints , dont have that anymore , so dont think it will look that good . john holland , london
  4. Yes you are correct , they did use 70mm stock , not 65mm . john holland , london .
  5. I agree , must be seen in 70 mm , shot on a stock called Sovcolor , which in fact was Agfa-Gaevert , only about 25 asa , but might be wrong there about speed i mean . john holland london.
  6. Yes , i have used that stock , but not 65mm, 35 and 16 mm , just dont think Kodak , have any camera neg ,in 65mm , unless a very special order , millions of rolls of stock [ ok a slight overkill] . But i am sure thats the only way . john holland , london.

  10. David the only other Anormorphic films i can think of are Mademoiselle [b+W] The Devils, White Nights. thats it i think , john holland .
  11. David as you say David Watkin was years ahead of his time in the 60s, and was hated by the old school cinematographers over here , Freddie Young was old school and used hard light , but did with care and great skill , which i love , so i was not knocking that stlye of lighting . Ted Moore just wasnt in the same class .The lenses used on The Charge of the Light Brigade , were very old Ross Express, very slow and with a Panavision Anamorhic in front even slower . Just a stunning looking film and made me change my ideas about lighting , when i saw it in 1967 at the Odeon Leicester Sq , on their huge screen. john holland ,london.
  12. Thunderball etc . shot after "The Charge of the Light Brigade" lit by David Watkin , stunning check it out if you have not seen it , same stock 50asa 5251 ,same Panavision anamorphic lenses , Afraid Ted Moore, was just a lazy old school dop. All his films looked crap . John Holland , london.
  13. Phil, Chelmsford , that expains a lot . john holland , croydon , i know dont say anything .
  14. Sorry what is the probs. with S4s , i agree had enough of low sat and high contrast , think its old hat in features , i dont expect them to look like old ads for Irish Stout . Boring , been there down that . john holland
  15. David , who is doing your neg develop and rushes and sre you seeing them projected or dvd ? john holland .
  16. Iam sorry but i really do think you should spend your $5000 on something else and not get involved with the movie industry.
  17. Hi 500$ as a D.p. you got yourself a bargain!
  18. Reply to the kodak man as far as i remember Agfa during WW2 developed what now call Eastman Colour, after the war all tech specs were taken back to the USA and given to Eastman Kodak who then developed the technology and in the early fifties wow Eastman Colour arrived, during the mid 80s Agfa had a wonderful stock 320XT used by lots of us who hated Kodaks then range of terrible high speed emulsions , but due to Kodaks overpowering money and P.R Agfa had to give up suprise suprise Kodak then introduced there own low contrast stock 320 asa . Please everyone try using Fuji range . By the way i have no connections with any producers of motion picture products. John Holland
  19. 20. I am stunned that Robert Richardson a.s.c. won the oscar for The Avaitor i thought the cinematography was very ordinary and spoilt by very dodgy c.g.i. john holland d.o.p. London .
  21. Seeing all these posts made me get my L-398 studio deluxe out from my treasure chest of meters and test it out it was spot on i must have had it for about 25 years got a shoot next week i am going to take to shepperton and wave it about and see if i get any comments. john holland.
  22. David Watkin for me he changed the way movies looked in the60s/70s and they look the way they do today mostly because of him, i worked on his crew in Spain on Robin and Marion and learnt so much. john holland.
