  1. The weight capacity is not a problem. The Arricam LT body is 12lbs. The 400ft mag is 6lbs. The Ronin 2 working payload is 30lbs.

Have a look at the CineMilled Upper Tilt Arms Extension for DJI Ronin 2 (STAGE 2). It allows the Ronin 2 height to be increased by 4 inches. There is also an adjustment to change the depth.  Put a shoulder magazine on a ARRICAM LT and measure the dimensions, do the same for the Ronin 2 and add 4 inches to the top and rear.

  2. Shot entirely on Super 8mm in New York City in late 1999, early 2000. The movie 'I AM JOSH POLONSKY'S BROTHER'. It's an America movie but only available as a Region 2 DVD out of France(Amazon). It stars the character actor, Richard Edson(Do The Right Thing, PLATOON, Stranger than Paradise).

    FOCUS PULLER KUNG FU

A focus puller has to tone and exercise physical and mental muscles to very good. Practice the following exercise to develop your timing when keeping people and moving object in the field of focus.

    First.

    Buy an old musical metronome.

    image.png.c203a7812678adbdcd00c41131cefb03.png

    Second.

Place your DSLR/camera on a tripod with the lens facing the SIDE of the metronome blade.

    Third.

Set the metronome to a slow speed, so the back and forth movement is slow.

    Fourth.

Print a label sticker with one word printed on it. Place that sucker on the blade edge, so that it will be visible to the lens.Tape the sticker to the metronome blade so that it it FLAT on the blade edge.

    Fifth.

Set the lens focus at the resting position of the metronome blade that is closest to you. Next, you will need a lens focus whip or crank for repeatable results.

    Sixth.

Begin! turn on the metronome at a LOW speed and crank the lens back and forth with the metronome rhythm.

Start slow and slowly work you way up to FASTER speeds.

Now, do understand there is plenty of technical gear that can be added to this equation( of course the pros will give even better advice), but this is a basic focus puller kungfu workout.

Buona giornata, Luca. A fast way to separate your self from other camera/lens repair technicians is to share the journey. For 100 years, lens repair has been hidden in the realm of the mystical arts. The world of 2023 is a show-me culture. For example, if a person sends you a lens for servicing, send them a photograph of the lens on a lens projector. Show a photo of what the lens resolving power is. People love details, in this new world. The client will then post that on social media, thus driving more people to your business/website.

When you take a motion picture camera apart to clean it, take photos and send them it the client. Naturally, you should post some of these pictures on your own social media account, but that client may have a significant following and it will help spread "brand awareness" about your business.

You will develop relationships with customers that come back again and again. You should offer to place photos of their work on your site, or even movie posters from the TV/Movie projects that you help to make possible by fixing their cameras and lenses.

  6. This show is a visual feast. They are using an Ektachrome LUT for the color negative footage, it looks great. Some scene really look like 16mm Fuji Vivid Eterna. It kinda feels like Tony Scott and John Carpenter playing table tennis with the visuals and camera movement. So good!

The small details of the set design are spot on very early 80's. Not only that but the racial/social/economic dynamics play really well together.

This show really has fun with the audience, it's so much fun. This show deserves a few Emmys. I am interested to see how this show affects the visual language of other upcoming shows, "Can you make this look like WINNING TIME?"

  7. Adobe After Effects is the cheapest and best quality upscale for the money. The mathematic scaling algorithm that is uses is one of the best around, yet that part is not advertised. One option that you should consider is transferring the video footage to 16mm film negative, scan that back at 4K.  There are 2 labs that offer this service at an affordable price.

  8. Nicholas,

Have a look at this thread in the film stock section :

Tungsten, HMI and fluorescent fixtures. Older lenses. Light for separation from the background. Locate a post house that has an older telecine that you can then uprez to another format for distribution after the edit..

  9. Thanks, Aapo. There was a post house in town called VTA. They had a Millennium that performed VistaVision transfers on a regular basis. Their gear was purchased by Crawford Communications, so it is possible the Millennium may still be operational. Sidebar: I wonder how much difference the grain compares between CRT and CMOS in regards to scanned blue/green screen 35mm footage. Hmmm.... More testing is required.

Is this one ok ? https://youtu.be/aT81llm_0Fw

John Kuhn(mentioned in the YouTube description), is the same telecine operator that transferred lots of 35mm footage for me on that same Rank machine before the 4K upgrade. He is also the 70mm projectionist that works at 70mm special engagements in Atlanta. Great guy. CINEPOST is the name of the post house. Send him an email and discuss what look you are after.

First of all congratulation for your really great advices !!

Can you suggest me some post houses with CRT telecines ? Also what is the maximum resolution you can get from a CRT telecine ?

Thank you very very much !!!!

That will require some research. Visit the website of the telecine post houses in your area. Some may still have a RANK telecine or any type that still uses the CRT technology. Dig into the archives on this site and read the discussions on the differences in telecine machines. I know for sure the SPIRIT Datacine and Spirit 2K machines will NOT be the type that you are looking for.  Something is lost with the upgrade to the 2K and 4K machines. There is a post house that is still using a RANK telecine for transfers, I'm not sure which one does.
