  4. hi everyone im desperately looking for an image...or vector graphic of generic 35mm ground glass markings and frame sizes (super35, anamorphic, 1,8:1) for a lecture presentation. does anyone have an idea where i can find some in a possibly good resolution ? thanks for any help.
  5. isnt it just an extra assurance ? besides ive worked with dops who didnt know the exposure compensation for some of the filters we shot with <:)
  6. ok in this attached PDF is what i got so far. any recommendations which filters else to put in ? filters.pdf
  7. hi everyone im in the process of making my own filter tags...to stick on the cam mattbox. does anyone know where i can find a list of the most common filters (nds, pola, grads...) their abbreviations and their exposure compensation values ? since i want to include that on the tags. thanks. ps. when im finished im happy to put up the list as a .doc file online so everyone can print it and get it laminated to cut out little tags and stick them on velcro :)

  9. they only deliver inside the US and to the UK :/ yeah i know who u mean :)
  10. hi its time to give my camera bag an overhaul. can anyone recommend an online shop like filmtools.com that actually delivers outside the US ? filmtools has a great range and good prices...but they wont ship to australia :( im planing on doing a bigger order since theres quite a bit of stuff i need but the local film supply shops are way too expensive. cheers
  11. well yes, but you know how it is, especially in low budget productions....every hour of telecine cost money...lots of money. so if there is a way of conveying my ideas quickly to the colorist that would be very helpful. the ideal thing would be a book that has lots of different stills photography styles in them and explains how to achieve those styles in photoshop .
  12. michael: i think you misunderstand me, im not trying to figure out the work process of a colorist so i can tell them what to do. i try to figure out a work process in photoshop for myself so i can provide references to the colorist to let him know what i have in mind. and exactly that is my problem, i know the tools like selective color, contrast, curves and all that in photoshop....but i dont know which ones to use to what extend and when, to achieve the look i have in mind. often i have a very distinctive image in my mind, but its hard to find references and then its difficult to tell them exactly what i want.
  13. alessandro: i do attend the grading sessions all the time, but i want a fairly good idea before hand and how to achieve it. adam: wow thank you, i will print out your post and keep that as reference :)
  14. hi dominic cool thanks for the tipp, will check that book out. i was just looking for a photoshop book because i do a lot of photography work in photoshop anyway, and creating postpro looks and color correction is a bit of a weakness for me:/
  15. Hi as a young and not so experienced DOP when it comes to color correction i have a problem. i usually know pretty well what i want look wise....but i dont really know how to achieve it in post....i can tell the color timer "make it greener...crush the blacks..."and so on, but it would be much easier for me if i would understand the process and what exactly has to be done to achieve a certain look. the best way would obviously be to take stills from my shoot, and manipulate them in photoshop to the extend where i think the picture looks how i want it, and then give the color timer those stills. so my question is, is there a book out there that specifically deals with color manipulation in photoshop and that explains how to achieve certain looks ? thank you.
  16. hi im desperately looking for the name of a cinematographer who shot a lot of 3D movies in the 40/50s, the special thing about him was that he only had vision on one eye left. does anyone know who i mean ? thx
  17. i think atlab prefer it with core.....but then i handed in several roles without (baad boy) and it was never a problem :)
  18. just came back from the cinema, yeah it is...interesting...not your typical horror movie. but with some very subtle story elements in it :) the cinematography ranged from bahh to wow, some shots were really really nice, others werent all that hot. The VFX were generally pretty good, done by a company form san francisco ("the orphanage" or something). if the movie gets a screening at a theatre near you and youre interested in asian cinema, go and see it. everyone else might be disappointed.
  19. cool thanks for that. ill let you know how it was :)
  20. oh korean, ok. yeah i heard a lot of great things about korean productions. maybe i write a little review tomorrow after ive seen the movie, ive seen the trailer yesterday before i watched "Snakes on a plane" so maybe that made me appreciate the korean movie more haha. glad you like my reel :) wish the dozens of production companys ive been visiting in the last few weeks would think the same *g
  21. Hi im going to watch a (japanese?) horror movie tonight at the cinemas here in singapore, which is called "the host"...i think the original title is "guemuru" (http://www.guemuru.com/). the trailer looks pretty promising and i was wondering if the movie is getting...or allready got a release at some western cinemas as well ? anyone seen it by any chance ?
  22. recommending films is like recommending a good restaurant...all a matter of taste, but if it helps i'll tell you some of my favs :) - Rain Man - House Of D - City Of God - The Weatherman - The Exorcist - The Thin Red Line - Big Fish - Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Brotherhood of the Wolves - The Last Emperor and maaany more :) i think its always a good idea to look outside the group of the "usual suspects" as well. kubrick, kurosawa and Co. werent the only good filmmakers...check out less know directors and movies as well. And most importantly....check out foreign movies as well...americans are not the only ones making movies. check out european, indian, asian productions and so on.
  23. have to agree with Josh Bass, "Mr. Death" shot by robert richardson looks great.
