  1. There is also Dedolight's PANAURA that looks similar to the Briese. I've never used a Briese though so I can't compare it.:-)
  2. Thank you David! As usual, a very clear explanation!
  3. Sorry David, but can you expound on the science (or math) of this theory?
  4. Hello everyone! I will be shooting a film in a few days. It is set in the aftermath of lahar flows from the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. Houses then were half finished and mostly lit with one incandescent bulb per room. I plan, of course, to have the practical source maybe with a 100W bulb but other than I am stumped. I would like to ask for some ideas how to light it as such but make it look more interesting. I will be shooting with the Canon C300 at 850 ISO, hopefully get a f4 stop at key. Thanks!! Nor
  5. Check out the thread in this forum entitled "Big Sur" by David Mullen. He has some screen grabs there and discusses how he set-up his forest shot. Just to give you an idea.
  6. Well, the hardest thing for me is trying to keep the eyelight source from keying the subject.:(
  7. Hi again! Interested in seeing more of your work but I can't see the images. Were they pulled out because of restrictions?
  8. Inspiring! Proof that one doesn't need tons of equipment to make a film look beautiful! Question about how you lit the shooting range: Was that all practicals or did you add anything to light the subject? I suppose the greenish cast is from the flourescents?
  9. Saw an article in AC magazine April '09 issue in the Post-Focus section, Peter Wunstorf made a DIY spacelight with a laundry hamper from IKEA. Very nice! Any idea what light he put in there?
  10. You are absolutely right! It never crossed my mind to have actors walk over the bounce instead of following them around with reflectors. And the CONVENIENCE!! I'm going to buy tons of white sheets!! HAhaha
  11. Thanks so much for this post. Just shows how much I still need to learn especially with shooting digital. SOme of the terms(knee, detail, etc) I still need to look up. I won't bother asking you what those are. My question, actually is very simple. You said shooting exteriors you use bounce boards and white sheets. Is there a difference in quality between the bounce boards(Foam core?) and the white sheets?
  12. Yes!! Thanks very much. Gave me lots of ideas.
  13. Hello! Wonderful lighting and framing. I'm really interested in how you achieved the day for dusk. I tried ggogling the H&H Blue/Grey#1 to find out what effect it has on the neg but I couldn't find any link. Anyway, of course tungsten stock shot uncorrected will turn everything bluish, but I would like to know how you lit the woman in the 2nd framegrab. Did you use tungsten balanced lights and warmed it up a bit more? Also, for the grocery store, what ambient reading did you get. What is very well-lit for you to be able to still gel the practicals? I've shot a grocery scene before and I had trouble getting a T1.4-2 and to support the existing lights with kinos. Thank you for sharing. Nor
  14. Is that the same for a par, say a 4k arrisun, when flooded or is that only for fresnel lamps? Creating harder shadows, i mean.
  15. Thanks adam! That's exactly it! Now I can ask our supplier if he carries them. Thanks again! Thanks also Hal.
  16. Hi! i'm trying to find a post that talked about this round light source that looks like a satellite dish without the diffusion in the front. It comes in different diameters. Just need the name of it. Seen it used i a music video once as a cisible light source behind the talent. Sorry guys, but i tried my best to scour this forum for the post. Thanks!
  17. Hello! Will be shooting my first short film/tvc next week. I wanna start the film with very warm feel and high saturated colors. As the story gets gloomy and sadder, I want the look colder and desaturated. I will be using the HVX200. Would it be wise to grade it in camera while shooting or should I shoot at zero levels and adjust the colors in post? Thanks! nor
  18. Since you're all talking about sunpaths, Any of you guys use the suunto global navigator to estimate the position of the sun at a certain time of the day? I saw a DP using it once when I was an AD, and he was pretty much right on... or the suunto was. My question is is it an essential tool for a DP to have? Or would a plain, old trusted compass do? Npr
  19. Thanks Kevin and Max! I think I've read most, if not all, posts here regarding NorthFOrk. :) Will keep at it.
  20. Hello!! I know that NorthFork was featured in AC magazine sometime ago. I just can't remember which issue. Can anyone help? And if anyone know of anymore sources where I can read up on it please let me know. Thanks!
  21. Sorry, but I got a little confused with terminology. Is "Overexposing and printing down" the same as "overexposing and developing normally"?
