  1. I recently came across this music video for a new music act shot in black and white. I think it looks fantastic and wanted to hear other peoples' thoughts. I really like this style of cinematography and any recommendations to other videos/films in the similar style would be appreciated! After doing some research it looks like they shot it on the Phantom Flex and Alexa. http://www.promonews.tv/2012/09/18/saint-lou-lou-maybe-you-by-philippe-tempelman/ The twin sister music duo are going for a retro/high fashion look, reminding me of French New Wave films. This is their first single and I think this video is a solid start to crafting their persona. Thoughts? Thanks for any input!
  2. Thanks for all the really helpful responses guys, it gives me piece of mind to know that I am getting good advice! And Rob, we are located near the USC campus in LA. The 90007 zipcode. I would be extremely, extremely appreciative if you could help us out with this project - my number is (213) 300-3665, and feel free to call me any time. Or send me a PM with your number and I can call you as well. We are still looking for a great cinematographer too! :) Thanks everyone!
  3. Hello all, This summer my production team and I are going to be shooting a 20 minute short film shot over the course of 10 days at the end of June. We are still deciding between film/digital and I am really, really trying to get us to be able to shoot 35mm 3perf. Now, we have a great deal on film and telecine but we may not be able to afford dailies. I am concerned that because we aren't seeing what we've shot until the final telecine at the end of the 10 days, this may come back to bite us in the ***. We have around 12,000 feet of film for a total of 3 hours. So about an 8:1 shooting ratio. If we have an experienced cinematographer and camera department, is this still a huge issue? I just have a good deal of hesitation about never seeing anything we have shot until the end of the shoot. Is it fairly inexpensive to get standard def. dailies or even a positive made every day just to be able to check on a projector? Are there still productions that shoot film without dailies? We will be able to have a video tap, but as far as focus and exposure is concerned, I am a bit worried. Should I be? And if so, are there any options available for low-budget productions? The producers will definitely be concerned about this, and as such, perhaps going digital is the way to go, although film would do our film a great service. Thanks so much for any input, I really appreciate it! - Dillon
  4. Thanks so much, I really appreciate the response. Helps me immensely!
  5. Hello all, 2perf, 3perf, and 4perf film is not noted by the actual film itself, but rather by the way in which the camera exposes the film, correct? For example, one doesn't buy 2perf or 3perf film from Kodak or Fujifilm, but it is all the same stock, just shot differently within the camera, correct? The camera exposes the film to a certain set perforation standard, whether it be 2perf TECHNISCOPE, 3perf, or 4perf. I think I am correct, I just wanted to check. Thanks so much. - Dillon
  6. You seem to be really pushing the SUPER TECHNISCOPE! Can you divulge some more information on this particular type of film? Pleaseeeee? Thank you sir.
  7. Hey Matt, Great looking reel! Really impressed. I've got a friend who is going into production on a 20 minute short film, with around a 20K budget this summer - shooting in June/July for three weeks roughly. We are still up in the air with the decision to shoot HD (RED/MarkII/EX/etc.) or film (super 16/35), and obviously it's an issue of budget. However, I will pass him along your website and this post. We both really hope we can shoot film, if logistics and monetarily it works out. I currently intern at a post house in Burbank where film is scanned, and love every minute of it. If you are available we'd love to meet up with you sometime to talk film vs. digital if you have any suggestions/comments/concerns with one or the other. Thanks. - Dillon
  8. Pardon my ignorance - is this 4-perf film? Thanks.
