I applaud Kodak for this effort but I think they would have been better off following the approach of Impossible Project / Polaroid. When Impossible revived polaroid they began by offering refurbished cameras. Then they offered a new camera. Later when they obtained the rights to the polaroid name and intellectual material, they offered more new cameras. Kodak should have worked with Pro8 who already had rebuilt and modified cameras, starting first with a basic model then moving to a more advanced model, then eventually to their own newly manufactured camera. All of this could have been done in the run up to the new model. This approach would have allowed them pivot and react to user feedback and capitalize on the resurgence of interest in film. Polaroid came back from the dead and seem to have a well considered long-term plan. Kodak's new super 8 camera was introduced with much promise and what seemed to be a very thought out approach. Then it began to feel more like an afterthought as they went radio silence for years. I hope this works for them, and I'm glad they are at long last taking orders. It just could have been so much more than it seems to be.

Hello, I'm trying to find out if the battery holder from the Beaulieu 1008 XL is compatible with the 6008 S cameras? It looks very similar but that is no real indication and I can not find any info through the usual searches on line.

Hello, I have a Schneider Nr. 30/2 lens hood for 62mm filter thread lenses. It seems to have the the capacity for non threaded drop in filters. I'm familiar with the Series 9 lens hood and SSLR rings that can do this. Am I correct about the Nr. 30/2 lens hood and if so what size drop in filters does it use? Thanks

Came across a Schneider 8-50 1.4 and was wondering if anyone had any experience shooting with one. How does it compare to the 6-66? It seems to be the lens that most often came with the Beaulieu 3008s. I've owned Beaulieu cameras over the years with the Angenieux 8-64, 6-80 and the Schneider 6-66 but the 8-50 is not one I know much about. Any thoughts would be helpful.

The 18-50mm optics are fine. They project well. The mechanical quality is really poor. That is my opinion based on 4 examples of this lens that I've projected and examined. Including one that RED sent out as a loaner while the owners lens was being serviced for many weeks. Zoom barrel action is ok. The focus barrel action was stiff and gritty on all examples. All had good contrast and sharpness. No a one held focus during the zoom. All had issues with the focus mark accuracy. These lenses are not bad when treated as a variable primes and focused by eye. With these issues is it worth the price... I've projected one example of the 18-85mm. Much better build quality than the 18-50mm. The action on the zoom and focus barrels was smooth. It had good contrast and sharpness. The example I projected had some back focus issues. Not sure if it came that way from Red or was dropped or mishandled by the owner. The two striking things about the lens is the quality of the PL mount. It seemed to be a very light grade aluminum instead of steel. The second thing was the giant front diameter 142mm???. For a lens in this focal length and physical length this is way big. A 110mm or 114mm would be more in line with other lenses in this focal range. 142mm limits you in terms of matte boxes and filter sizes.
