  1. I'm not a fan of adapters. I purchased an Arri Standard-to-PL adapter when I got my Super16 SR-II. I could have been doing something wrong, but my Zeiss primes really weren't compatible with the adapter. I suggest you purchase PL-lenses for PL-mounts.
  2. The only time you'll see them unburnt is when they're brand new. Shouldn't be a problem.
  3. Hey Hunter - I liked your film. But I would definitely put it in the experimental genre. I thought you made great use of reflections & lens flares. You had some very interesting techniques in there. Other than the framing issue, I think it was a nice piece.
  4. Looks really nice, Phil! I especially like the way you lit that second shot.
  5. The less-interesting shots are clustered in-between 00:38 and 01:09. I think it's a bit too long anyway, so I'd just cut that section. Otherwise, it's a nice reel.
  6. In conclusion, I wound up sending the viewfinder-extension back to the seller for a full refund. I asked him to tell me what he found when he received it and my initial thought wound up being correct: the extension is not formatted for Super-16. So there we have it...
  7. I have a 2592. Is it shuttering and jumping on the bottom part of the frame? The filmstrip was probably slightly misaligned when you put it into reverse but should have returned to normal when you put it back into forward. Have you tried to put any film through it since then?...
  8. I don't have Facebook, so I couldn't see your picture. But here is a good example of chiaroscuro:
  9. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone!
  10. I've been using the X-Rite Color Checker for years and it meets all my needs. Quality costs, but it's worth it in the long run.
  11. It all depends on what he's aiming for, thematically. I've seen plenty of interviews that have different hues for different points-of-view, and that works well. I'd reference the color wheel and just be mindful of your overall palette, so as not to jar your audience.
  12. So, after a more throughout check, I’ve determined that the issue lays solely with the viewfinder extension. Since the prongs on all of the ARRI viewfinders only allow for two different positions (180 degrees in one direction and 180 degrees in the other,) I tried both positions with the extension and both positions with only the standard viewfinder. When I used the extension, the circular obstruction appeared on the RIGHT part of the frame, but the left side of the frame was clear (see “A” below.) When I removed the extension, turned it 180 degrees, and attached it again, the obstruction appeared on the LEFT side of the frame and the right side of the frame was clear (see “B” below.) A. B. When I used the exact same process with the standard viewfinder, I had no issues. It’s almost as if the barrel of the extension is partially closed or something. Here is a picture of the viewfinder extension: And here is a closer view of what looks like two small levers. I’m not sure if those do anything and I don’t want to start unscrewing things. So if anyone can offer any advice, I’m all ears. The seller is very fair, so the worst-case scenario is a refund. But I’d rather solve the problem. Thanks for any help.
  13. Nice reel. What cameras were used?...
  14. Getting back to one of your original options, 4:3 seems to be making a bit of a comeback - especially with independent features like Ida (2013) and Son of Saul (2015,) which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, last year. Also, have you done any short films? Or are you jumping right into a feature?...
  15. Hi Dom. Yes, I thought of and tried everything you mentioned, but the frame line is still obstructed. I contacted the seller (another camera owner I've purchased from before) and he said to loosen the screws on the extension a bit "to adjust it to my camera." Make any sense?...
  16. Yes, it does go on only one way. Really can't understand it but that's what's happening...
  17. Hi everyone. I recently purchased the extension viewfinder for my Arriflex SR-II. I attached it today and noticed a circular obstruction on the frame lines (enough to be a problem.) I screwed it on and off multiple times and the obstruction appeared in different areas of the frame (corner, sides) each time. When not using the extension, the viewfinder is fine. So my only guess is that this could be due to the fact that my camera is S16?...
  18. Nice visuals, but the teaser itself doesn't really give me a sense of what the film is about...
  19. You created a very nice mood with the music & camera movement. Normally, the sudden rapid-to-slow motion creates a jarring effect, but not in this piece. Nice color palette, too.
  20. That was really cute! The editing was spot on (nice job!) and I loved the fact that there was no dialogue. The girl had just the right amount of expressivity in her face. I thought the lighting in the close-ups were very nice. Great music to set the mood, too! Nice work, Justin!
  21. Tiffen is great, but check the seller's rating. They have 15 negative reviews in the past 6 months.
