  1. That's extremely traumatic for each and every person of the cast and crew. Be honest with your own mental state. If you don't feel up to going back, that's a sign that you shouldn't. At the same time, if you're ready to go back, just do the job and don't worry about what the atmosphere might be like. But respect that everyone will deal with this differently.
  2. Getting back to Michael Moore... Did anyone else see him on Letterman? I thought he came off quite sincere. That is what I would like to see more of in his films. Just an observation.

  4. Hi, I know I don't post here as often as I used to (career change from filmmaker to EMT) but I do read the posts on regular basis. Why does it seems that politics, not film and cinemtography, is the primary focus of this forum now? Ever since this new forum opened, everywhere I look are left or right wing commentaries interspersed in film posts. I know the former Ultra Definition got a lot of people going (including myself) but I hope it doesn't continue now that he's gone. Everyone has their own views about what's going on in the world right now. God knows I do. But I respectfully ask that we all make a combined effort to keep the politics out of this forum and stick to film-related issues. Thanks.
  5. I'm very anti-Moore, but I'm even more anti-censorship. I'd like everyone to be able to see it to reach their own conclusions. Anyway, not releasing it would be playing right into Moore's hands.
  6. Many others (such as myself) feel exactly the opposite.
  7. Congrats, Greg! Best Wishes for long-enduring happiness! Congrats to you too, Mitch! Beautiful name. I wish her nothing but the best in life.
  8. I obviously haven't checked this forum for a while, but I just want to say IT'S ABOUT TIME, DAVID!!! Congratulations on being recognized for some spectacular work. I knew it was only a matter of time.
  9. My thoughts exactly. Shooting with multiple cameras (if you have access to them) will make it easier on you and the actors.
  10. Hey, did you guys ever meet up or is that coming up...?
  11. Okay. Who saw my 16mm student film and labeled it "Tortured Artist Film"?
  12. I was watching "Solaris" today and saw something in the flashbacks. Everytime there was noticeable motion near the top of the frame, there appeared to be some ND shading there. Anyone else notice this? Was it in fact a filter? Thanks.
  13. That's right. This area is up for grabs - as long as it's legal and not too offensive. Sorry Tim, but I think this was a bad move. This area distracts from the real forum you originally created. I sent you an e-mail about it.
  14. Hey, as long as you're happy with the end result, you won't care what your shooting ratio was. Just go for it and have fun.
  15. Did anyone see "Monster?" Did Charlize Theron deserve the Oscar? I can't really say since I didn't see it, but I did see "21 Grams" and thought Naomi Watts was outstanding.
  16. I think I'd rather pay for good music.
  17. Now this is an intelligent topic. I agree that the photography in a comedy can add quite a bit to its overall impact. As David mentioned, "Manhattan" has to be one of the best lit comedies in the past 50 years. But there are all kinds of comedies. "Manhattan" is certainly more of an artful comedy, whereas "Ghostbusters," while it was nicely photographed, had more of a commercial look and feel to it. I also look for the overall texture of the film. How much went into the art direction? The costumes? The set decoration? If all of these elements are finely tuned, it shows that someone cares about making a good film. And I think these factors are sacrificed too often in favor of getting directly to the punchlines. But if a good story is in place along with a director who gives a poop and actors who know how to have fun with the material, then you hae a chance for a good comedy.
  18. Not at all. But some of your posts are so idiotic, I just had to pounce when you left yourself open for that line. I don't usually do that, but when you start putting up some posts that make an ounce of sense, I'll gladly post an intelligent reply.
  19. Yes, and amazingly, they're all under your name. What are the chances?!?!?
  20. I would be there, but I work EMS, 3-11. Have a drink for me guys and get home safe. Enjoy.
  21. I disagree. I think it has a shot because it created such a stir and made so much money. The Academy might feel that they have a shot at redemption since "The Last Temptatiton of Christ" (onew of my favorites) never had a chance. Who knows? I personally LOVED the way Mel depicted Satan. Right out of "The Seventh Seal."
