First reel also ;-)
Trevor Greenfield replied to Olivier Vanaschen's topic in Please Critique My Work
You shot Marla! For those that dont know Marla was shot using one of, if not THE, very first homemade mini35 devices. Read more about it here: http://www.marlathemovie.com/ . The method they used has now been superceded several times over but they opened the door for all homemade devices to come including the Redrock 35 device, and it stills tands as one of the better looking digital 35 shorts shot (imo). -
How do I achieve this look...
Trevor Greenfield replied to Jean-Francois Morin's topic in Cinematographers

Person moving normally in fast-paced environment
Trevor Greenfield replied to Dan Stone's topic in General Discussion
in Garden State they use both motion control, non motion control, and also selective ramping. With the non motion control, they had Braff sit as motionless as possible while the party goes on around him at maybe 8fps? 4fps? I don't know. -
Has the unthinkable ever happened?

Never seen a Panavision but I have seen a SuperAmerica which probably isn't that suprising. -
Scrap piece of 35mm film to practice loading?
Trevor Greenfield replied to Trevor Greenfield's topic in 35mm
I called kodak LA and they are sending me a little practice bit of 35mm, and also a new price list (my last one was from before the price change). BTW the marketing dept is very friendly. Good to know. I've quite enjoyed the "still chilled when it arrives from Kodak" situation, but because this is a short Im going to have to save as much $$$ as possible, so I may elect to do short ends. I only have 400' mags anyway. Thanks. -
and of course, consequently, to get a widescreen ratio such as 16x9 (1.77:1) with standard 16mm full frame, you would need to matte or crop the image down, resulting in a total of 40% less negative space used than with super 16. 40% is huge not just at standard def or high def resolutions but especially if ever considering a blowup to 35mm.

Scrap piece of 35mm film to practice loading?
Trevor Greenfield replied to Trevor Greenfield's topic in 35mm
Thanks Nathan, will give Kodak a call tomorrow morning. :) -
Would anybody happen to have a scrap piece of exposed 35mm, maybe 50' or so, that I can practice loading this beast? I'll gladly paypal you money for shipping and give you a special thanks in my next short :) Thanks, Trevor.

i don't know what's scarier, coming to cinematography.com to talk politics, or reading anything posted at any political "news" site as radical as informationclearinghouse.info
-
No problem. But you may want to change your username to First Last name. I think its a rule here. Besides people want to know whom they are talking to.

Sorry I don't have FCP so I can't test it but try this: http://www.riverrockstudios.com/riverrock/...ayfornight.html

NICE. With the advances Vision 2 has brought I can't wait to see what a stock like that could do. Moonlit with no lights? BTW Joe are you related to the infamous DP of the same name?

Hi Will, I called and talkied to the Tk guy, look into uncompressed transfer to hdd!
-
I have a 16mm Elmo but I dont think i have the manual... its a fairly simple projector did you have a simple question?
-
Oh, sorry, I had Forde/Alpha do my stuff for my last short on 7265 but they have gone through changes since I used them (in fact when i used them last year they were still seperate businesses!), but I did a supervised tk with alpha for less than $200/hr... They have also updated their tk since I was there Im told too. In any case now that you have the film processed Im sure there are many places that will do a transfer for you for just 1 roll. Make sure you tell them its just a test though.

What would you do without DOF?
Trevor Greenfield replied to Matthew Bennett's topic in General Discussion
Because I dont watch the show, can you tell me what you mean by this? They rack focus foreground to back too often? -
Why not? maybe the street address is taking it a bit far but why not tell everyone who you are and where you're from? Maybe theres a DP who lives right next door and can answer all of your questions if you buy him/her a cup of coffee! :)
-
That was my other thought. If you're doing a DI anyway, its an automatic slash on budget. Or maybe if you're shooting a feature witha lot of footage, the savings in the stock might pay at least most of the DI line on the budget. Either way I really hope this takes off (I mean soon, I need it!)
-
Forde/AlphaCine for just a test. fordelabs.com and alphacine.com , they're the same building. But since its just a test, why not just project the reversal once processed?
-
Thank you, David! Much to learn about this format. I assume the IP/IN stage has improved as well as blowups to the point of making it a viable alternative since the 70's. Because if we're talking about blowing up from s16 vs. 2 perf (which should be about the same in price), obviously i'd want the 2 perf which should have twice the res anyway.
-
Can someone tell me why this very economical format died?
-
Nice Tim. Tell her one of her ancestors at my house says hi :)
