  1. Awesome advice Matt. I was concerned about the polariser, when shooting RAW, that would "polarise" the colours too much.... My background in Still Photography, when using polarisers, was basically to get more colors from the blue sky, or add/remove reflex from window glass, etc. So I can go comfortably for a polariser then, instead of a ND Filter...?
  2. Thanks again, Matt. But a polarizer wouldn't sort properly the light vs aperture issue, would it? I will mostly be shoot ing documentaries. But for example, in a sunny day, a medium/close shot would look more interesting with a larger aperture so leaving the background out of focus. A polarizer would help anyhow? I thought was only to control color density?
  3. Great Stuff, Matt. Thanks! OK... As IRND are way too expensive... Then would benefit to get a .9 ND, as you said? I just need one for now, for very sunny days as in Brazil is 90% of the time. Then in the future could get a .6, etc. Thanks a lot! Very helpful!
  4. Hi Sorry. Of course, a 4x4. Thanks for the tips. Will try to find one. Sun is really shining in here. Just os I know. What sort of GEL filters I could use? What model, type, etc? Best, F
  5. hi Tyler. Yes, I've just seen your footage on your links in another post. Really great takes, congrats. Believe or not, I've got my pocket cam, mic, sound recorder, tripod, merlin steadycam, and so far haven't used them yet. I have great primes to use, and I'm keeping myself of doing it for now. Yes, crazy I know... I was craving for the pocket. But now I'm studying and learning one by one of my components in theory to know how to operate. Then I will go for practice in field and make some tests. I still have to find a ND FILTER for my kit (am in Brazil now, summer, so VERY important). I need one that could fit my 4x3 matte box. If you guys have a suggestions of a god one for a good price, please let me know. Keep on the Black Magic revolution. F
  6. Hey everybody After getting my Black Magic Pocket Cam, and a bunch of accessories, I'm about to start delving into the wonderful world, and perform some lens tests. I have 4 Schneider Prims, and 4 Kern Primes. The gear is almost complete. But I'm stuck in finding a solution for a ND Filter for these little primes. Any suggestions? I'm not sure if there's any that could fit a Matte Box? Not sure if that is still used. Thanks, F
  7. Hey Tim. Just wanted to thank you for the Tascam finding. I bought it. :) Didn't try yet, but will soon. All the best. Have a great Xmas and New Year. Thanks, F

  10. Wow. Thanks for that! Shame I've just ordered from B&H. If I oy have seen it before! Great stuff. Bere goesmy last question. This Tascam is "quite" portable. Has 4 channels. But what would be the main difference from this and a HANDHELD one like the ZOOM H4N for example? This onealsorecords 4 channels. Then I can make up my mind and go for the bes one for my case. My intent is to have all I need to shoot a doc or drama anytime I need.
  11. Thought would be good a space to discuss good practices and issues related to the new BMPCC, as we users, experienced cinematographers or not, are all "begginers" with this baby. I just got mine today. Oh yeah. Played a little bit using my Kern Switar primes. Loved the looks. My fisrt question is at the same time "silly", but I have to ask. When using ADAPTERS.... I have the metabones Arri to M43 and C-Mount to m-43... And when putting it in the BMPCC, it's really hard and tight to put it, which is somehow "good". But I noticed it scratched the metal surface where lenses and adapters sit in th camera... I know I shouldn't ever use any lubbing in that part because of the sensor, etc. but is there anything to be done regarding this, to avoid scratching in excesss? Or it's part of the process?
  12. Hi Tim. Thanks. I'm actually trying to do the best with my money, of course. ANd I'm close to get there. my project ain;t next week, I have to travel next week, so I have to buy the accessories. I'd go for what you suggested, but for the price of that recorder, I might get something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ART-USB-Dual-Pre-USB-Interface-/331057149816?pt=UK_Musical_AudioMIDI_Interfaces&hash=item4d148b3778 The think is, I already bought the Rode NTG2. And having the Tascam DR40 for the same price isn't it waste of money (a bit?) I mean, both are "recording". But the Tascam can STORE the audio... What you mean is to connect the NTG2 to the Tascam DR40? I understand what you said, and sound is not my metier. But for now I cant afford a sound person all days I'll be shooting. So I'll learn from what I can, and when the project gets somewhere, for sure I'll hire someone. Thanks, Tim.
  13. Hey Tim. Thanks a lot for your inputs!!! Do you mean, to record from the MIC directly to this recorder, INSTEAD to the BMPCC through a preamp? WOuld it give better results, REGARDLESS the preamp I use? Is that it? I've read not so friendly reviews on this Tascam... But if you recommend, it might be a cheaper/effective solution. :) Please let me know. I wouldn't be able to afford more than this now, really. Spent more than $3000 days ago... BMPCC and accessories.... wow. I'll be researching through this weekend for the best solution. This preamp needs to sit on my shoulder rig well too. So, there's a couple to consider. I;d like something portable, but that could give great results... I mean, doesn't need to be spectacular as that SoundDevice one you posted first... But it would have to be GREAT. Thanks a lot for your help so far! Best, Flavio
  14. Hi. Thanks... Yeah, I know. Filmmaker with NO budget :) I'm considering getting this: http://www.astounded.com/pulse-mpre-dual-dual-channel-microphone-preamplifier.html As I still need to buy the Balanced cables.... Do you reckon this one would work well? Thanks, F
  15. Hi everybody. Am not a sound guy, and my knowledge is very limited. But I'm putting together a nice gear set for my Black Magic Pocket Camera. And now I'm on SOUND. I've bought the Rode NTG2. And now I need advice on a cost-effective PREAMP. I've found the PULSE DUAL CHANNEL AMPLIFIER: http://www.astounded.com/pulse-mpre-dual-dual-channel-microphone-preamplifier.html And might 'sound' crazy, but I've got the idea to use this pedal as it might be a good solution: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Behringer-PB100-Preamp-Booster-Pedal/6BK?origin=product-ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=PLA+Behringer&utm_content=Yb7xhCqt|dc_pcrid_39000656599_plid__kword__match__#full-des I wonder which you would advise me. Or any others, since they could be poewered by a 9V battery, making my kit really portable. I'll shoot a documentary, so sound quality is primordial. I know from various posts the sound input in the pocket camera is very low. So need gain/amplifier. Also, I need to buy the CABLES, and I wonder if I buy them BALANCED or not balanced? Thanks everybody. Appreciate if someone could help on this as I have to buy this soon before travelling next week. F
  16. Just in case... I'm accepting offers on both sets. Please let me know. Thanks, F

  21. I thought to get a 25mm Schneider that is easy to find on ebay... An a SLR Magic 35mm could complete well the kit? Hard to find 50mm Schneiders or any above... Thanks, F
  22. Hello everybody, Came here today to ask for advice on building a set of Schneider Primes (arri st or c mount) for use with my black magic pocket camera. I have these both Arri ST mount primes: Schneider-Kreuznach Arriflex-Cinegon 16mm f1.4 Schneider Cinegon 10mm f1.8 So I was thinking on a 25mm and a 50mm to complete the set. Maybe a 75mm or up as well. And I need to know which ones should I get (the names, please) to have a set where they could be interchangeable, meaning I could keep a balance in the quality/looks. So I can chase around to buy them. Thank you all in advance.
  23. You could buy a Bolex EL. They come in a very good price these days and for a starter they're really good. The Kern zoom lens that comes with has an internal light meter very accurate. And... I'm selling one in case you're interested :)
