  1. Can I resurrect this thread? Looking into installing the firmware on my T2i. Zebras! Anyone know anything about it or any downsides to it?
  2. Hey I'm a first year film student as well, I thought that was a pretty good doc. Like Lance said, maybe a little more exciting and creative b-roll would have been good but I'm sure that's not as easy as it seems especially with this topic. A couple shots almost looked out of focus and there seemed to be a slight ghost effect on the motion. Enjoyed it.

  4. I've recently started film school and one thing our school is huge on is permits. No way we can shoot(stage) anything on camera out in public with having a filming permit. They say it's basically committing career suicide if we try to film without it. It's something you learn to live with doing and that's fine. However I know of some schools who don't have much of a policy on it all. What I'm really wondering is to how far of an extent do films shoot without permits? And if no one catches them during the actual filming, do films not get in trouble with the law once the film is done and people notice they filmed illegally? I know plenty of films that made lots of money have filmed in places without a permit for the location. I hear that Lost in Translation was illegally filmed on the Japanese subway. I'm also confused as to what the rule is on getting public bystanders faces in the way. I thought filming someone who hasn't signed a release form was illegal as well. This obviously happens in movies and documentaries. Hopefully someone can give me a straightforward answer as I haven't gotten a clear answer everywhere I've looked. thanks

Hi I'm a young film student and was just wondering if anyone knows anything about the difference (if any) between the industry in New York versus Los Angeles for a anyone wanting to work their way up as a DoP or cinematographer in the camera department. I hear New York is a much more independent-art house scene instead the big guns that run LA. Is that true? Is it easier to make and profit off of your own films in New York than in LA? Or more opportunities for gigs in the camera dept? Just curious if anyone had some knowledge on the topic. thanks. -Sam

    Top T2i Gear

    Hi everyone, I'm new to the website and I have a quick question. Recently I got my hands on a Canon T2i, with kit lens. This lens is not very good and am looking into getting the 50mm 1.8. I was wondering what extra gear any of you guys use with your t2i, 7D etc. I would like to get some sort of shoulder mount or stabilizer and maybe a slider. I am on a bit of a tight budget but if you have any other input on crucial gear for DSLR's please let me know!
  8. Totally agree with everything stated above. From working with the Canon T2i and a few other HD-DSLR's I think the most important thing would be the lenses you use. You stated you had the 7D kit? I'm assuming you mean that you only have the kit lens, which is good but if I were you I might look at renting some more expensive lenses. You will definitely be able to tell the difference. Just make sure you know how each one looks and feels before going into your shoot. Another tip is to take advantage of size of these awesome cameras. You can create some cool stuff in small spaces, etc. with them. Good luck!
