  1. Hello guys, I just got a used 100A for $2000us and have some questions about it. 1) Is there a 'Master Reset' button or option to erase the settings and go back to default settings? 2) The camera is about 9 months old... and has 140hrs on the Tape counter. is that average? 3) I plan to shoot a 12-15 min short film and have heard that you should shoot everything at normal settings, then color correct afterwords in post rather than playing around with White Ballance, Gamma and other settings to get the right look in cam. Is this so? 4) If anyone can list, or point to a list of settings for a nice 'film look' for DVD output with this camera, that would be killer. Thanks in advance for the help, and if these quesitons are answered in other posts please let me know. Sean Simes
  2. Thanks guys, all good advice. The script is around 15 pages, so what i hear is this translates to about a minute a page... give or take. There is no big action scenes, one guy gets his throat cut and dies in the main characters arms... there will be a few longer one-shots... like 20-30seconds with no cut. Also, these long shots will go from inside to outside... those i will need to plan the lighting before hand and probably do some tests for exposure changes. So it looks like i could do some DV tests for a couple scenes, the longer ones, and just shoot the rest only on Film. Another thing, the finale is the main character watching a videotape on TV, how will this film on 16mm? I will probably shoot the 'Video' he watches on DV and just film the TV... is this a no-no? Not sure about scan rates of TVs, i know Digital sees it as 'flashing' lines on TVs because of the scan rate difference... does this apply to film? Thanks guys. Sean SImes
  3. Hey guys, just a quick question for a short film. Would it make sense to shoot the entire film on DV, getting different angles and stuff, then edit it like you would the final film. Then use that final DV cut as a shooting 'videoboard'(instead of storyboards) for 16mm final film? It seems that this would help cut on unused film costs. I would get stand in's or friends to take the actors place... no need to pay actors twice. Would this be practical, or a waste of time... in your opionions. Thanks in advance. Sean Simes

  5. Thanks for the input guys, i know i have a lot of studying to do. Rik Andino: The prices quoted are already in US dollars, i converted them as i figured most of you are from the US. These are prime user rates at the Winnipeg Film Group, www.winnipegfilmgroup.com. You have to be a registered user, $75 US for a year membership. I am taking the Basic User Workshop on that site in a month, $300 US for a month-long coarse covering everything. That $300 US includes the $75 US membership also, so its a really good deal. I think Guy Maddin hangs around the place. They are teaching us on the Arri 1, for film, and the Canon GL2 and Sony DSR-250 for digital. I think it is a good start, check the site out for details. I look foreward to any further input guys. Thanks Sean Simes
  6. Thanks Alejandro, I figured the guys who work would be of more help for specifics, i was just looking for any 'in the field' experiance with these cameras. It will be a simple shoot, i will get a matte box, 4" - 5.6 to minimize flare and mabey test out some Filters. I think standard frame rate will apply, and no shutter angle changes will be needed. Nothing too fancy, i am a beginner as you can probably tell. The 'advanced' stuff will come later. The SR3 is more than double the price that any of the others, and for good reason i can see. Thanks again. Sean Simes
  7. The available lenses are as follows, not specific to a camera... Zeiss Prime Kit $25.00 Zeiss 10-100mm $6.00 Angeniuex 11.5 - 138mm $30.00 Angeniuex 9.5-57mm $6.00 Bolex Lenses $2.00 Thats all the info the PDF at the rental facility gives. I was going to talk to the guys there when i rent. Thanks for the swift reply. Sean Simes
  8. Hello guys, first time post here... I am shooting in a few months, indoor, outdoor short film. Time of day will be afternoon/early night. About half and half indoor/outdoor. Real time, flashbacks. I have the option to rent the following 16mm cameras: Arri SR3 - $130/day Arri SR1 - $50/day Arri BL - $20/day Eclair ECL - $20/day I have looked through the forums, they are awesome, and not really found direct comparisons between these cameras. I have a very limited budget, whatever my Visa limit is. Heh. Now, i hope to shoot Super 16, there is a transfer house here that does 15min/$15 plus $2 per cartridge. thats pretty good i think. The film will only run just over 12 mins, so that is ok by me for price. Not sure what the shooting ratio will be, 5/1 mabey, i know what i want. Also, it might be shown at a variety of festivals here in Canada, and most but not all of the theaters are digitaly equiped. So i can make DVDs of the finished product and show them easily. But, some might only accept 35mm, so Super 16 seems like the way to go. Sorry to bore you all, i could use any help you can give. I have a few follow up questions for later. Thanks guys. Sean Simes Ps, anyone in Winnipeg interested in being involved this summer email me. flexytech@yahoo.com
