  1. As some of you fellow filmmakers are aware, it isn't always possible to shoot sync sound even though your script calls for its share of dialogue scenes. In this case I'm shooting with a silent camera, the ARRI 2C, non crystal sync - constant speed motor. Blimping it is out of the question. I guess the only ploy I can wise up is to shoot the scene as it is written with directions to the actors to project tin-lipped mouthings, call cut and quiet on set, keep the players in position and ask them to just re-voice everything with the sound boom operator only. Is this just a classic case of "just go and rent a sync Camera" or can dubbing a entire short be possible if done properly? Any techniques for this?
  2. Hey fellas, Just curious to know what things relate to lighting in digital cinematography as opposed to film. I'm film trained so I know what to expect with 35mm. There is obviously no color balancing or anything like that in the digi realm? So is it just a matter of lighting intensity a DP is focused on? Like lighting continuity and f-stop measurements? I'll be helping a DP this weekend with a HD camera, just want to know what to expect. A side to side comparison would help Thanks
  3. Thank you, Slight dose of amnesia here. I was doing a lighting test on a mannequin, I wanted color on one side of the face but I got enchanted by the blue, forgot about color balancing. Are their gels designed strictly for color effect, without temperature change? Sorry I don't have much experience with gels.
  4. Whoa, maybe I'm just loosing my mind. I seem to have forgotten what I've read and learned. I'm shooting 3200k tungsten stock. I want my lighting subject's face to have the fill light blue-ish and the key light normal. If I put a full CTB in front of fill and leave the key as is, how will this turn out? Should I gel the key as well, maybe with a 1/4 CTB to keep the "white" cast? I just keep forgetting these things. CTB gels over lights on tungsten stock?? Conversion to 5500k? Someone refresh my weary mind.
  5. Hey gents, I bought a 250 watt tungsten photoflood I'd like to have in the shot. However, due to this wattage, can this bulb be screwed in to wall or ceiling Edison light sockets or must I have a lamp stand plugged into wall to secure the 120 volts? The latter isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing. (shot is in dark corridor) This is a rented location, so I can blow any circuits.
