So, how does adding a "Chicago" subforum actually get added? Lot's of talk, but no action.

I've been using Reaper for years with great success. I haven't found any limitations yet, and the VST plug-ins are really good. http://www.reaper.fm/

You can find 2x4 or 4x8 rockwool panels that can be covered with fabric. These are really good for absorbing audio and are commonly used in sound studios. Very lightweight. Also, a great inexpensive mic is the Oktava MK-12. They have a hyper capsule that can be used for indoors. http://www.oktava.com/inc/sdetail/474
