  1. Thanks, David. I'm certainly open to suggestions. Would you have a link to that?
  2. Nicholas, try ORWO (www.orwona.com) if you still have the option, or for the future. Their UN54 80/100ASA stock is gorgeous and replaces the discontinued Plus-X. Their N74 is a faster/grainier stock that's a good match for Double-X. If it's a large order, it may take a bit longer because their inventory is kept low. And, it's one individual running it, so you know exactly who you're dealing with. Prices are probably better than Kodak as well.
  3. Reading through Jon Fauer's Arri 35 Book on 35BL maintenance, and he recommends (as recommended by Arri) "Petrolon Slick-50 Teflon Grease" for the cams and masks. I don't see this product on the market on a google search. The "Slick-50" company makes a lubricant, but it's a spray, and I don't think that's the right product. Does anyone know of an alternative? I found these possible options for teflon grease: http://www.performancelubricantsusa.com/product/high-temp-grease.php http://www.uspetrolon.com/catalog/lubricants/extreme-pressure-grease http://www.amazon.com/gp/product//B002L5YYYA Additionally, for PDP-38 oil, all I found was this resource: http://www.gelcompany.com/home/leica/cryostat/7348-cryostat-oil-type-isoflex-pdp38-50ml - Not sure of any other places this can be got? Thanks much,
  4. Now up for auction! http://www.ebay.com/itm/331331623664
  5. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331302375082 This is the sharpest lens I've owned or used from this period of lenses. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches, and free of internal dust, fungus or haze. Focus is smooth throughout and iris ring moves as it should (clicks into each stop). Arriflex Standard Mount. S/N 6626124 Please let me know if you have any questions!
  6. Sorry, didn't see you're reply, Mark. Here are some clips with it in use (these are all on black-and-white film though): https://vimeo.com/83291158 (0:36) https://vimeo.com/69522462 (0:11, 0:57 and a few other places)
  7. On eBay now with a no reserve auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331290682711
  8. Selling this treasured lens of mine. This fast zoom has performed beautifully on the projects I've used it on. The lens is in excellent condition with clean glass and smooth focus, iris and zoom movement. From my understanding, this is a high serial number for this lens (1463475), and considered the best of the old Angenieux zooms. Includes front and rear caps as well as a support bracket that can easily be removed or put back on. Focal Length: 20-120 mm T-Stop: T2.9-T22 Minimum Focus 3'6" Length 12 1/2" Front Diameter: 124mm Weight: 11 lbs. $3500 Please PM if interested or for higher quality pictures.
  9. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331270070574 This lens was purchased last year and had some work performed on it by a lens tech to get it in working order. The rear element was cleaned due to some fungus and the front element was replaced due to scratches. There is a bit of interior dust still but is otherwise clean. I've since used it on a couple of projects with no issues as far as I can tell. I do have footage I can send. The focus ring is offset in the readings, but this can either be modified or marked with paper tape to true readings. Though, the lens is so wide and the widest iris opening being f/3.5, focus isn't much of an issue. Covers 35mm Academy at 1.66 aspect ratio with no vignetting. Comes with front and rear caps. Please let me know if you have any questions!
  10. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331270057416 I purchased this lens last year and have since used it on a couple projects. Still in excellent condition. Glass is free of scratches, internal dust and fungus. I've only used this to shoot black and white film, but it seems like it would lend color images a warmer look, like many old Cookes. For a sample of this lens in use, it's the main wide lens used in this video. Comes with PL adapter installed that you can keep on, remove to swap adapters, or go with straight Arriflex mount. A note on the focus ring: with the modification to PL, the locking pin is no longer engaged, so that focus is controlled at the end of the lens barrel (there's a geared ring installed here). Focus points can be written on with paper tape. Comes with front and rear caps. Please let me know if you have any questions!
  11. A note on the camera gate -- effectively, it's Academy as the soundtrack area is not exposed, but it seems to in fact be an Anamorphic gate as the frame extends beyond the perforations on the top and bottom, making the camera aspect ratio 1.19 or thereabouts. I've never used the extra vertical space, but thought this was of note.
  12. Serial # 10100. I've owned this camera for the past two years and it continues to function seamlessly. Pin registration is excellent, and I can provide footage to anyone that would like to see. The corner of the ground glass is chipped, but doesn't affect the internal image area. Includes one 400-ft magazine and variable speed motor with 4-pin XLR power cable. The tripod head is optional. I can throw it in at no extra charge except for additional shipping. Asking $600 plus shipping. Please let me know if you'd like more pictures.
  13. Jean-Louis, I'd definitely be interested. I tried sending you a PM, but it was rejected. If you could send me one with your e-mail, we can get this settled. Thanks!
  14. Okay, thank you much, Dom. I'll look around for a local machinist.
  15. I'm not sure exactly how to refer to this part, but it's the pin onto which the geared bearing attaches for the motor on the bottom of the camera. Mine's bent and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on getting a replacement. I contacted Visual Products; they said they have ten IIC parts bodies, but this part's been removed on all of them! I did try straightening it, but I can't get a tiny kink out of it, which seems to be preventing the bearing from being inserted. Thanks!
  16. I'm actually having this exact issue, was wondering if anyone had found a fix. Looks like on mine, everything is structurally sound, but the "brake pad" is very smooth, and seems like it wouldn't be able to grip the cylinder very well. Any recommendations for a fix here? Maybe some material I could put on the pad?
  17. I've used both the 8-64 and the 11-165. I've had great results from both. Although, I used each in different projects with different stocks, so couldn't give a precise quality comparison; my opinions will be mostly subjective. I used the former on a documentary and the latter on a narrative short with a Microforce zoom controller, both on color S16mm. The long zooms in this short are on the 11-165: https://vimeo.com/36322754 (password: raccoon -- also, please excuse the simplicity of the story; it was more or less a technical exercise.) Actually, Rob, this was processed and transferred at Cinelab, not sure if it was you handling the telecine. Either way, I was pleased with the results.
  18. I've seen this before. Howe is very entertaining, also one of my favorite DPs. His work on Seconds is also excellent, and the Frankenheimer commentary provides so more funny anecdotes. I forget where it's from, but Howe was telling a story about his silent film days, when a shot required him to be submerged in some sort of submarine for an underwater shot. Something went wrong and it filled with water, almost drowning him. He passed out and when he came to on the dock, the director was standing over him saying, "Jimmy! Jimmy! Is the film okay?!"
  19. As I have a BL3 with a PL mount and a IIC with the Arri ST mount, and sick of changing lens adapters... So, I'm looking for a 2C with a PL mount. A late serial number would be ideal. Please PM me if you have one you're looking to sell. Thank you much.
  20. Thanks, Rob. I saw that. I did just recently get a video attachment that attaches to the Arri eyepiece. I'm wondering if the viewfinder image is an improvement on the original 2C door, though. I'm also looking at his 2C PL body...
