  1. The problem is not caused by light leaking through the hole in the spindle of the tank. In my tank the hole is already taped over. Furthermore, I do not experience the same problem with E6 processing using the same tank.
  2. I am using the Lomo tank with the Foma reversal kit for processing of Tri X. However, I am unable to eliminate white flashes on individual frames of film. I developed one cartridge which showed about 50 of these individual flashes throughout the length of the film. In developing another cartridge, I increased the amount of the chemical solution and ensured I observed the correct temperature of the developing solutions, but still I noticed flashes during the last 13 feet of film. Is this to do with inadequate agitation - I notice that the flashes become fairly regular on that part of the film which is closest to the centre of the spiral? I am using tap water to mix the solutions and to clean the film between processes - and the water is fairly hard in my area.
  3. I went to the new shop four weeks ago. There is a wealth of exceptional equipment there. Everybody there is very welcoming. English is spoken! They have the ability to carry out repairs. The prices are very reasonable. Film stock is readily available, including Foma R100 at very low prices. I would certainly recommend anyone thinking of buying a camera to go there - you can sample the equipment and you know its going to work. I will certainly recommend the shop to my students. Would be great if they opened a branch in London!
  4. I think Martin's comments are spot on. While one can be critical of aspects of the format, there is absolutely no point posting consistently negative comments about Super 8. Until recently there was a magazine in the the UK published quarterly concerned only with film making. The main contributor had virtually nothing good to say about Super 8, even though it appeared he often used it. Much attention was also given to equipment that was extremely rare or for which film was extremely difficult to obtain. One wondered why the only magazine in the UK dedicated to the use of film could not focus instead on encouraging newcomers to take up film making. There surely can be no question that Super 8 is superior to Standard 8? The frame size is larger, the film is designed to be striped in the logical place away from the sprocket holes, the splices are made between the frames and not through the sprocket holes. In addition, there are high specification projectors that can be used for Super 8 which are not available in Standard 8 and there is a greater choice in film stock now available. If you don't want to use a cartridge, there are several Double Super 8 cameras to chose from of a spec.at least equal to anything manufactured for Standard 8.
  5. Congratulations, Ignacio and to the Carosound lab. A remarkable achievement. Is the film available for purchase now and at what price (presumably in euros)? Can the film only be purchased on the basis of it being processed by Carosound? I notice from the website that the single 8 cartridges are returned after processing. Does this mean that they are reloadable? Robert Moseley
  6. I acquired an R10 about 3 years ago. Unlike on the R10 which I had used for 30 years, the milled ring appeared to be stuck. However, I managed to turn it after which it became Ok to adjust. I think if the ring has not been turned for many years it becomes extremely stiff. Even on a new R10, it is intended to be fairly stiff. You may have to use a lot of strength to get it to move, but in my experience once it has been freed it can then be adjusted. Robert
  7. This is a remarkable achievement - something that users of acetate based film have been awaiting for 13 years since the abolition of the Ektasound Kodak film. Several questions arise: Is it intended that this ektachrome film be available commercially? Is there a main stripe only or also a balance stripe? Is the film to be supplied in Single 8 sound cartridges only or also in Single 8 silent cartridges? Is it envisaged that pre-striped ektachrome might be loaded into super 8 cartridges (sound or silent)? It would be great if pre-striped film become available again. Robert
