  1. Hi all, I've just acquired a second Beaulieu 4008, I was going to convert it to external battery pack but as it comes with a charging block and apparently re-celled battery I'm thinking I might try and make it work as is. So what I'm lacking is the 7.2 volt charger, can someone advise on what I should look for regarding Ampage output etc- would these Ansmann chargers be ok? (charging current 900mA): www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ansmann-RC-Car-7-2v-6-Delta-Pro-Fast-UK-Battery-Charger-/251180558509?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item3a7b8728ad Also, supposing I get a charger, can I use it with the old Beaulieu charging block and also could I use it to charge the battery via the camera itself through the input on the back? Cheers all for any replies, Jon
  2. Thanks for the replies, yes, I did mean stock expense, the subject is things like bottles of liquid breaking, its an experimental piece. So do I take it that it will be of benefit to shoot as high frame rate as possible and then extend this digitally? thanks again.
  3. Hi all, I have a friend who wants to shoot slow mo on 16mm because he likes the film aesthetic. He wants a maybe 200fps look but thinking about expense, could we get away with shooting say 50fps (or slower) and slowing down digitally with Eg. Twixtor?, would it be as smooth as shooting film at 200?, if not is there another way of doing it? much appreciated, Jon
  4. Thanks for the replies everyone, Does anyone know if Quality light Metric have a web address, I can't seem to locate it, Cheers, Jon
  5. Hi folks, I'm pretty sure that the Minolta Colour meter ii I bought recently is a bit off with it's readings, does anyone know where in the UK I can get it re-calibrated at a reasonable price, Minolta don't seem to be replying to my email, Cheers, Jon
  6. Hi, I'm considering getting a R16 eclair ACL and read that I won't really be able to use my Switar RX primes safely with the eclair C mount, what alternatives do people use to, for example, a Switar 10mm, I'm not that worried about Super 16 compatibility as I'll mask off in telecine if necessary, would a C mount Schneider 6-66mm off a super 8 camera work? any replies are most appreciated, Jon Ratigan
  7. Hi all, I'm shooting some 200T with this camera soon, does anyone know what the camera will read the stock as? What's the best way to compensate for any misreading? Will I need to use an external filter? All feedback is much appreciated, Jon Ratigan
  8. Thanks for the reply, Correct me if I'm wrong but I've come to the conclusion that the cartridge notch is a kind of safety thing that tells the camera to allow the use of the 85 filter but until you engage the filter on the bulb/sun dial it does not slide into place. So I think my options are: Just insert the Vision 2 200T cartridge without notch- camera reads as 100 iso (daylight), presumably if you then engage the filter it loses an extra 2/3 stop? Cut my own notches, camera reads as 160, if I engage filter this becomes 100 equivalent but correct for daylight. I could cut notches and not engage filter, camera would read as 160 and I would correct in post, I would really appreciate verification on all this, cheers all, Jon Ratigan
  9. Hi all, I'm going to shoot V200T in daylight on my Nizo 801, I know from reading other posts that the camera will read it as 100 iso (but 1 stop OEX is okay by Kodak) and that because the cartridge isnt notched the 85 filter won't be engaged. So I could make a notch myself thus engaging the filter thereby getting the camera to rate at 160 iso with correct filtration (correct me if I'm wrong). Am I right in thinking that the cartridge both tells the camera the iso and whether to engage the filter or not? if so what does the bulb/ sun knob do? surely this engages or disengages the filter?, I've heard mention that I can achieve the 160 iso just by swithching the knob to 'bulb' on these Nizos, does this switch overide what the cartridge is telling the camera? I'm confused. Any feedback is much appreciated, Cheers, Jon Ratigan (Wales)
  10. Hi, Does anyone know where I can access DOF tables for Super 16, we will be using Zeiss Distagon primes 9.5, 12, 16, 25 and a Zeiss zoom (on 1/1000 c.o.c.), I need them for tomorrow! Most gratful, Jon
  11. Thanks for the reply Tim, Are they any quieter than the clockworks though?, I don't suppose there's a decibel figure out there somewhere for an EBM is there?, I might be better off getting myself one of those Kinors then. Jon
  12. Hi all, I'm thinking of buying an EBM, I know noise will depend to some extent on when it's last service was, but can anyone give me an idea of just how noisy these things are, if I got a blimp on it would it be feasible to record sync with it? Also, does anyone know if these electronic Bolexes are repairable, I'm planning to get it converted to super and just wanted reassurance that it's going to be cost effective? cheers all, Jon R
  13. Hi all, I am looking at getting one of these cameras at the moment, I want one that's as quiet as possible- even though sync sound isn't absolutely crucial I feel it's nicer for the actors if they haven't got something that sounds like a cordless drill in their face. So this Kinor sounded interesting, I'm guessing that it's quieter than an EBM but can anyone tell me how much so subjectively (dbs don't really mean much to me), if blimped could this thing be used for dialogue scenes? (I know there are other posts touching on this but has anyone had experience working with both these cameras?), Cheers all Jon (Wales, UK)
  14. Hi all, Could anyone recommend a UK (preferably Wales) based film and video lighting/cinematography short course. I know that the NFTS courses are probably the best but they are quite hard to get on to and don?t come cheap. Any suggestions would be welcome. JR
