  2. I am just a student, i have not shooted with alexa yet. But looking at the picture i just have a guess if am wrong pls correct me I feel that picture is giving that kind of blur. Because of "CMOS CENSOR" which records image similar to interlys scanning technology. i feel this problem wouldn have come with a camera with "C.C.D CENSOR".Because, i remember i saw a comparison footage of same image shot using cmos & ccd. In which cmos has this kind of image due to its image recording method. Its just a guess am sorry if am wrong :)
  3. I am basically confused inside these three types of shots In 5c's it is said Objective Camera Angles: The objective camera angles films through the sideline view point. The audience views the event through the eyes of an unseen observer,as if eavesdropping. The dop's and directors call this candid camera style has Audience pov.the players should not look at camera directly when objecting angle is maintained. So, has the author said above. an objective angle is what the player inside the scene cant see (ie) that view point can never be seen by the player its for audience & like by audience. So why cant i call a over the shoulder shot has an objective shot. Even in an o.t.s shot the layer is not looking at camera & that view point cant be viewed by player ???? Why is O.t.s consider has a subjective shot ? For that matter a mid shot, mid long shot (as long has player dosen look at camera) can also considered has an objective shot ?? And, what way a "P.O.V" is different from a "Subjective shot" ? I cant get this clearly its confusing so kindly help me :)
  4. Hello, i am confused completely about the Differences between "OBJECTIVE,SUBJECTIVE & P.O.V SHOTS" ? i am reading "The 5C's of Cinematography". In this Book from pg no:13-23 MR.JOSEPH.V.MASCELLI Talks about the 3 Types of camera angles. i couldn understand the basic differnces betwn the 3 types of angles. since so many practicing dops here i thought you ppl can help me understand this in simple explanations with maybe some clear examples. Kindly Help me with this :) Thanks in Advance! :)

  8. Hi, i got myself Introduced to the concept "18% or Mid Gray" & to Ansel Adams "Zone System". I understood what zone system is why it was found by Ansel Adams. i also understood the use of a gray card & Meter callibrations to favour middle Gray etc. But, i have few doubts about this concept. Ill ask them in this post kindly clear my doubts  :) 1. How much luminace Black has & how much luminace white has & how the no 18 came ? How a middle gray (ie) Zone 5 exactly Reflects 18 % of light hits it ? 2. What is "sensitometry" & "Densitometry" (Kindly explain in simple terms) & what way will it help me to know these 2 to understand this concept better ? Note:I definetly have put efforts before posting Here so i am just making sure am not wasting any ones time for my laziness :)
  9. "The Shutter (mirror) is left open in video mode on the Canon cameras and what the "Speed" refers to is how long to "Read" the sensor for." Sir,in that case how do i see whats been recorded through lcd? if shutter is open means exposure is happening what gives feed to lcd ?? and is this the same mechanism for red, alexa also ? & if the speed refers to "HOW LONG SENSOR READS" Means will there be the natural effects by shutter like blur or crisp images are possible cos i dint see any difference in shooting 1/50 shutter speed & 1/200 shutter speed with my camera ?
  10. Hi friends i have ordered for a copy of The 5c's of cinematography & Cinematography(3rd Edition)am sure ill learn a lot fom these 2 books. Now,I want to know What all books there which deals with the subject "LIGHTING". I Want to learn lighting. Can some one give me a list of books on lighting ??? and share Your memories reading those books. So from now i can save cash to buy these books before i finish reading the above 2 books i ordered. 11. @David Mullen Sir, i dint understand the last part, i am bit confused with this. in my camera while i shoot in still picture mode. i know the focla plane shutter opens and closes according to the speed i set. But, the same camera when i change to video mode and shoot a video. What kind of change it undergoes to shoot a video ??? if there is no shutter angle at all, how can a focal plane shutter designed for stills can work for a video ??? This is very confusing to me Kindly help me with an answer or Provide a link. Thanks in advance sir :)
  12. if we shoot in 360 Shutter angle, how can there be exposure. a disc is 360 degree right ??? i have a canon eos 550d Digital camera I shot a short film with it. I dint see shutter movement at all while i was recording a shot. Can you explain me how it works that way in a digital camera sir ???? is it like this in arri alexa & red one also ????
  13. But in normal motion , a motion blur can be achieved only in post production :) Thanks for this input i was thinking about this for last couple of days now its clear thank u sir :)
  14. thanks for the replies i have a question in film wont it be a motion blur if i shoot in 3 fps ??? ofcourse it will be fast motion but wont be there motion blur in it ???????
  15. Hi i have few doubts about the intermittent mechanism in a motion picture camera. I know rotary disc is connected to frame. So when the motor runs on 1 side the Pull down claw & Registration Pin will advance frames for exposure and other side of this mechanism will be connected to rotary disk. Now the speed of this motor is based on frame rate per second (ie)24fps & 48fps will not have same motor speed. which means other side (disc side) will also rotate fast when shot is 48fps. so the exposure time for each frame in 24fps is 1/48,exposure time for each frame in 48fps is 1/96. 15 types of Shutter angles possible in camera from 11°-220°. 220° in 24fps will have 1/40 shutter speed per frame.And,220°s.a is only in panaflex camera not in arri camera. Now My Question is If i want to create a motion blur in a shot (ie) an effect created by using a slow shutter speed. What can i do if 1/40(220° S.A) Is not enough ? Can it be created while shooting or only in post production we can achieve this Motion Blur ??? This is my doubt kindly clear this am very confused & if whatever i understood is wrong pls correct me
  16. This documentary on "golden ratio" Might help us to understand it clearly from how it works :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpAJ5mMHGwY
  17. I had a class recently about "The Golden Mean" & "Rule of One thirds". i came across the "GOLDEN MEAN". i understood the rules on composition. But, i want to know The exact history of how it was found, what it means, how it works. I did google abt it. But, it took me deep into maths. so i am expecting some clear, simple explanations about it .

  20. How a projector works can some one explain in detail ? i have many doubts about projection and its result. 1.how sound and image are synced in projection ? 2.we shot earlier silent pictures in 14-20fps,after sound came we been shooting film in 24fps for 90 yrs almost. But,According to edison theroy 50 frames is needed to eye not sense "vision flickr".How is this problem over come in projection when we have shot only half of the frames needed to avoid vision flickr? Pls clear this doubts in simple terms :)
  21. Hi friends, am a student in a film school which has a quick 6 month cinematography program. I am attending classes regularly. As the course is just for 6 months the subjects are thought very fast.and,it is very tough to clear doubts with professors der due to my language problem with them. so , i am trusting this forum to clear my doubts. So , how stupid or silly my question is kindly help me:) My question is WHAT IS A "EXPOSURE VALUE",HOW TO FIND IT?,IS IT REALLLY IMPORTANT TO KNOW THIS "E.V" WHY? PLS EXPLAIN ME IN SIMPLE TERMS :)I couldn understand it by reading myself cos am getting confused :)
  22. SIR, THANK YOU SO MUCH :)FOR YOUR TIME TO EXPLAIN :) :) :)
  23. SO, the conclusion is if i say i am shooting in super 35 format it could mean i can either be using a "spherical lens" to shoot in super 35 format or even i could be using an "Anamorphic lense" to shoot super 35 Correct sir (jus a final confirmation before writing down in my personal notes dairy :))
