  1. Does anyone know if you can use an Arri 16 SR-1 on a camera slider? I have a location with some tight access where I can't fit a dolly. The slider supports a 3/8" thread size. The Arri uses 3/8" thread size. Arri weighs around 17 pounds including film. I was also thinking of mounting the slider on a tripod. Would this be an issue or should I use two tripods? Thanks
  2. I'm looking for any side by side comparisons of camera sliders. It's for a Canon DSLR. I saw some reviews but would like to get some more opinions or if you know of a url that has a shootout of different brands. The Glidetrack looks pretty good. It's the one I'm considering. Any particular model that I should consider? The Hybrid version looks good. The "Phillip Bloom" Kessler pocket dolly looks like the best but expensive. I saw the Konova slider, but it doesn't seem to have a resistance knob to control the speed of the slider. Any other brands or opinions? Thanks
  3. It's all about the lenses. If you want the film look with depth of field then get a DSLR. A good starter camera is a Canon T2i, but don't get the kit lens. You won't get the DOF. Invest in a prime lens. The total package with camera and 1 lens should run around $1K US. If you can afford a better camera, get the Canon 60D which has a view monitor and is a step up from the T2i and looks just as good as a 7D. Take a look at Philip Bloom's website, he does a camera comparison and also has an article/blog about which lenses to buy. A note on lenses, you could probably buy some older used still camera (SLR) lenses and then get an adapter for the lens mount. This could save you a ton of money.
  4. The Field of View changes. * For 16mm film, 50mm is considered a telephoto, 25mm is “normal” and 10mm is wide. But I found that it is really hard to get ultra-wide lenses though. Luckily my school has a 16mm Zenitar lens to get a wide enough angle for my shots. I couldn't use the stock lens (17–69 mm zoom) because of the minimum shooting distance with it was 6 feet (2 meters). But I like the camera because I could of the M42 mount. I also used a 28mm Super Takumar. The images looked really nice.
