  1. Thats a bummer. I love the camera. Hopefully I'll be able to find someone.
  2. I keep getting turned down for R8 service. Du-All said they only offer very limited service, and Willard Engineering did not respond to my email. I'd just like to have a basic overhaul done, and it would be a nice bonus if I could get the meter to run on the AA batteries. It works great and has an accurate meter, but is noisy when running and probably hasn't been serviced in a very long time. Any leads on where I can get this done? Are these cameras harder to service than the popular Canon models?
  3. I FOUND A NEW SUPER 8 LAAAAAAAAAAAB

  4. So I've been totally blowing focus a lot more than normal lately at weddings. Usually when I'm zoomed to telephoto or doing close up work. It's killing a bunch of my important moments. I swear everything looks sharp in the finder but the film is like beyond soft. Could something be out of calibration? I feel like I know how to recognize an off diopter. I'm using a Pro814 and a Canon 814 AE. Would having an overhaul by Du-All here in NYC done potentially fix my focus woes?
  5. Also giving away: Magnetic steel bars that you screw into the wall and use to hang unframed posters or prints. Kind of a DIY job but they look cool and make it easy to swap out art.A Canon 9500 Mark II pigment inkjet printer. Works fine, probably needs new inks. I printed on it in the last few months and there were no significant problems. I don't print from home so this is of no use to me. Seriously free, if you have the space come get it. I have a few inks I can give you and some g...

  6. Got it. Brooklyn bound.

  7. Can anybody help me visualize how large an 850sq ft 2br would be? Peas and thank you.

  8. Trulia, Craigslist, Naked Apartments, or direct broker interaction? You will answer me now.

  9. Weird just because the last I heard Agfa folded... Did somebody buy up their equipment?
  10. I can't see how this is true. What would be the point of manual exposure? What would be the point of having a manual mode then? It doesn't say anywhere in the instructions that exposure needs to be adjusted when hand metering. I can't see how this is true. Also, why is my film coming out so well when I have been hand metering Tri-X, and absolutely not compensating for light loss? If anything I tend to over expose when doing it this way.
  11. Wedding photographers! w00t! We're cool. Yeah... Anyway I want to put together a thread that will go over the best choices for people doing Super 8 weddings. Please chime in if you can add to this. I'll start with the two I use regularly, and what I would like: Nikon R8 Super. Tough as nails. Has a great lens. You can over and under expose via a slider which is VERY useful. A little expensive, but worth it for the level of control. It'll pretty much read every available stock. I do often miss focus when shooting long though. It's hard to see in that little view finder. Anybody have a remedy for this? A little heavy and loud. Pro8mm Refurbished Canon 814. Also tough, great lens. No macro, but bright and clear view finder. Pro8mm SAYS the meter has been set to read all available stocks, but the original version does not. Has anyone confirmed this? I have been hand metering with it so I can't say for sure. The trigger tends to 'jump' a little when half depressing it, and the meter doesn't catch as quickly as my Nikon R8. No ability to exposure compensate in automatic. The Pro8mm version had the T filter removed. A little heavy and loud. Nizo 481 Macro. Sold it to pay for the Canon but I liked the camera. Great lens, dead simple operation. Accurate meter. Limited metering range though, so a handheld is a must. What I would like: Quieter, obviously. Manual setting of ISO. Brighter, bigger finder so I stip blowing focus on tight shots. No more 1.35v cells, AAs to power the meter. Wider angle lens if possible. Any suggestions? Can anybody write up the Nizo sound cameras as options? I see they meter a lot of different stocks and run on AAs only. How's the finder and are they quiet? Is a 220 degree shutter worth it for low light? Thanks!
  12. Is this a stock that is currently being produced? Or is there simply some available dead stock of an old still emulsion that Wittner/pro8mm is selling for Super 8?
  13. I am editing a Super 8 film in FCX, which means I have large blocks of footage that I cut up and insert into my timeline. I cut them pretty precisely because often you'll have something completely different at the end of a clip. So when I apply a cross dissolve I notice that it brings in a few frames beyond my cut, which totally screws up the dissolve because it just looks like a mistake. Is there a setting that I haven't applied or a way to tell the cross dissolves to only use the available footage in the clip? Not the most experienced editor here sorry guys if this is a really stupid question.
  14. Hi everybody. I shoot weddings with a Nikon R8 and a Pro814. I need a light for an upcoming event. Any ideas on good, reasonably priced, and portable on camera lights? Also any first hand experience shooting with one would be great. I imagine I'll just have to meter the light at like 5-8 ft away and hope 500T has the latitude... Or should I just stick with automatic? Thanks in advance. -Mark
  15. I'm going to go to bed now. When I wake up, I have to go to work. This is the worst news ever. Basically nothing has changed for me since 6th grade.

  16. An employee at B&H had his bike stolen right out in front of the employee entrance in broad daylight, surrounded by other people. If you steal, or have stolen a bike, you are a scum bag. Bikes are akin to pets. When my bike was stolen it felt like somebody killed my dog. I hate you, bike thieves. Please get testicular (or ovarian) cancer and die.

  17. Oh and it should be max 8 with a good finder and focusing system.
  18. A really dirt simple camera. 18, 24, slo-mo speeds. Either interchangeable or a 1.4 zoom. No meter, but 30th of a sec shutter speed equiv. AA batteries. please tell me you're building one.
  19. Does anybody have any real time experience with this or the software? What kind of quality can one expect? It sounds like it's basically delivering 'one light' xfers, but is it possible to do it timed? I do weddings and this could be a good investment...
  20. "It's very Norse." Is the nicest thing anyone has ever said about my tattoo.

  21. Somebody bring me a cheese burger and ALL THE FRENCH FRIES!

  22. I'm going to spend the day scowling at my logo. You suck. I made you, and you suck. I hate you like the grumpy cat hates everything. Ack!

  23. Matthew A Penwell are you signing a lease today?!? I don't remember!
