About Me
My name is John D. Miller and I am a 3rd generation grip. I was raised on a film set. I started my grip career at 16 years of age working for a equipment rental house. Once I joined the union, Local 80 Studio Grips (Los Angeles). I started working on sitcoms with my father(an amazing Key Grip), Bo Miller. I spent a few years learning the ropes, spending the hiatuses on rigging crews, and eventually got into pushing the dolly. This lasted only a few years as sitcoms became nearly obsolete at the advent of reality TV.
I saw the writing on the wall, left the sitcom world, and began working on features. I was very fortunate to start working for an incredible feature Key Grip, J. Michael Popovich. I spent many years as an extra hammer for Mike.
About 8 years ago Michael decided to make me his Best Boy. This was very challenging for me but very much welcomed. Today I still am his BB but seem to be spending a lot of time Keying for Cinematographers that have projects that Michael is not able to do. I am really enjoying this "transitional" phase in my career.
I enjoy helping and teaching new-comers to the film business. I also hope to learn new things as there is always more to learn and wish to meet new people.
