  1. Thanks Brian, book ordered. Yes my post should probably have included the word 'editing' in somewhere!
  2. Hi forum! I work in a regional film archive and I am currently rationalising some large collections of television and corporate films from the 1970s and 1980s and wonder if I may call on your expertise. These films are largely 16mm (with a few 35mm) and contain many dupes, soundtracks, commentary tracks, work prints etc. At the archive we have a good relationship with the depositors and have lots of paperwork but we're still without some of the finer technical details. Now I am reasonably knowledgeable about standard post-production film copying processes from these eras (albeit as newcomer to this profession!) from neg to showprint, but some working titles and labels are proving a bit foxing. Here are some typical examples: O/E Neg Neg trims Master trims Master Edit Trims Master Cuts (commonly joined with white *temporary?* stickers) Action Cutting Copy Cutting Copy OBT (often together with the O/E negs) Cutting Copy Trims Cutting Copy Cuts Master Ekta Off cuts TX Print Reprint Master Dub Spot Demo Copy Now in quite a few cases it appears we are missing ‘finished’ material in the form of showrpints/release prints or transmission prints so it’s difficult to establish where we have fragments and/or unique material. The good thing is we are now in a better position to inspect and observe each case directly (prior to this they were stored in a museum) but what I would really like to do is to establish a sort of flow chart based on the post production processes of 1970s /80s and integrate these labels we keep coming across. The idea being that we can hopefully categorise where each of these elements manifested in the 'generation-chain' from the original negatives (pending more detailed examinations) My questions: Does anyone have knowledge of the above titles? Can anyone help direct or refer me to other sources of film copying procedures from this time? Does anyone have knowledge of whether a similar flow chart/diagram/post-production instruction information exists elsewhere? Anyway apologies for this terribly long-winded enquiry but any help or suggestions you can offer would be most greatly appreciated! Eddie
