  1. The CS (constant speed) or VS (variable) motors on the 16S are designed to be run at 8 volts. They'll work at 12 or 14 volts, but Carl Scheitinger at TCS once told me the higher voltage damages the brushes of the motor and it will shorten the motor life. Cordless drill batteries at 8 volts should be ideal. Skip
  2. Try fitting one of the two lights with a large diffusion so it becomes a big source. That means adding a Chimera-style softbox or perhaps a studio silk, 18x24 or bigger. Assuming you can spare another gripstand. If you have a low enough white ceiling, try bouncing one light (usually the biggest) into the ceiling and direct the other at the talent. One shadow always makes sense. Skip
  3. The Zeiss 8mm is a terrific wide lens for the 16BL, if you have the prime lens housing. They're cheap now if you can find one. I think it's f/2.2 Skip
  4. Tegea 5.7? I have one I use with my SR3. It does cover S16, sort of but the corners are a bit dark. It's not very sharp, but the look is so radical you can cut the stuff in anyway. Besides the 2x2-inch filters from an Arri S mattebox, you can put 49mm (Pentax still camera) filters in the slot including closeup lenses to bring the fixed focus point closer. I would tape them in with black paper tape if your cover is missing. Skip Roessel
