  2. Thanks for your insight, but I knew that already. I was just hoping someone who actually had used this exact lens could tell me that it is normal with the Sigma. As, was said above, that's one of the reasons why pro cine lenses are so expensive in comparison. Two such people, having experience with this Sigma 50-500mm lens, answered my question on the RedUser Forum, and verified my suspicions. Their lenses do exactly the same thing. Therefore, my question has been answered, and I appreciate all those who helped. Thanks. .
  3. At the advise of others, I have purchased a Sigma 50-500mm Zoom Lens for use on our Red-One Camera. It is a beautiful lens in mint, like new condition. This is the model without the OS and with an aperture ring for external control. I just want to know if any of you who have used this lens on a movie camera, are having the same issues I'm having with it. Therefore, my question is this: I have owned or used many, many lenses in my life, but never one quite like this. It was obviously designed for still use, but most others made for still cameras do not have these restrictions. This Sigma lens does NOT hold focus throughout the zoom range. In other words, when focused on the subject at full extension, as you zoom back it goes in and out of focus. No, it is not the back focus adjustment on the camera lens port. As such, this lens can only be used theoretically as a series of fixed lenses and has to be focused at each separate focal length. If this is normal for this lens, then so be it, and I can live with it. I was hoping I could use it as a zoom lens as well though, but if not, OK. It would be more like having many different lenses all in one. Another thing I noticed. Most zoom lenses, when an object is too close, you just can't focus on it. But, with this Sigma it "jumps" out of focus when it's past the zoom range it can handle. For instance, it will focus at 300mm, but as soon as you've passed that, to 350mm or beyond, it "immediately" goes super-soft. Are these things typical of this lens? Is it just the norm because of the design? If you have any knowledge and experience with this lens I'd appreciate knowing if you have the same issues. Thanks for your time. .
  4. Hi Chris, Thanks for answering my question about the motion detector for the Sony EX1. A physical way of punching the on/off button on and off would be fine. Electronically, would work as well. Either way is fine with me IF it works. The camera will be set up on a tripod, outdoors, relatively close to an AC outlet. When an animal or human passes in front of it, within 10'-15' it would trigger the camera and shoot a burst for as long as the animal or person remains, then turn the camera off again when there is no longer any movement. The camera would be on all the time, but would only shoot when motion was activated, and stop shooting when no longer there. Would you be willing to build this for me, or do you know someone who could? Thanks for your time. George DD.
  5. I have a Sony EX1 and I need to buy, or have someone build, a devise that will trigger the camera via a motion detector. In other words, I want to set the camera up, and when something moves in front of it, the motion detector triggers the camera to shoot for x number of seconds. This devise can be wired to the camera or remotely, as long as it works. If anyone knows where I can buy such a thing, or have one built, please let me know. Or, if you will build it for me. Thanks for your time.
  6. I want to use a Nikon Zoom Lens on my D7000 body in the Video Mode, and I want to connect up a DC "powered" zoom control, so it can be zoomed via the tripod handle. I know there are some DSLR generic zoom controls out there, but I'm looking for one that's powered. If any of you have such a set up, or know where I can buy one, I'd be very thankful for the info. Thanks. .

  8. Much to my dismay, when we were out on location shooting a lake scene, I put the Polarizing Filter on our EX1 and the lens hood would NOT fit back on. Even removing the UV Filter to give it more room was to no avail. The Polarizing Filter, even alone, was just slightly too thick to allow the lens shade back on. VERY poor design on Sony's part. Later, I bought a rubber, collapsible lens shade, and even that collapsed "all the way" still caused vignetting when the lens was at its widest. Be that as it may, have any of you conquered that problem, and if so, how? We MUST be able to use a Polarizing Filter on our EX1. Thanks. .
