  1. Yes! Location shots if possible! Go to places and get photos, even if it turns out you might not be able to use that location. There are cameras in phones and nice digital cameras and everything and they can be really great tools for tryi g things out and thinking about what you want to achieve. It can really help you to think about what you want to achieve and what may or may not be possible and it doesn't even require any drawing.
  2. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lwf0dTW9oUI And hey, even if you don't remember them there's probably an ip camera somewhere that has captured it for the Japanese market or something.
  3. I think Phil is teasing you and the new issue is not out yet but he has advance knowledge.
  4. Apologies Satsuki. I can tell this is a bit of a sore subject. I'm British so we make jokes about everything. It's like some strange compulsion. Having said that I do think if you are going to be weird you might as well go all the way and it does sound kinda odd. Setting it in space might help especially if you are shooting in the dark too. You would need to score some free Christmas decorations from somewhere too I reckon tho... Anyway...
  5. Gotta say, that sounds interesting! What did you say? "yes that should be fine but you must also set it in space."?
  6. :o Hey Big Up Mr Kenfield!!!! :o :o    :D  Freya
  7. I think you guys are both right and that Pi was Plus-X reversal. I remember them talking about wanting to keep the extra silver or something and shooting on reversal. Freya
  8. Eraserhead The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari Vampyr Nosferatu Der Golem The Silence The Seventh Seal Persona Hour of the Wolf Winter Light Through a glass darkly Love is colder than death La Jette Probably lots more I can't think of right now... Freya
  9. Is it really a hated movie? I love silent running. I even had the DVD till recently. I also love the straight story and think it is completely lynchian. That scene with the deer for starters. I seem to remember that John dies at the end was really good too but it's been a while. I really like Labyrinth too but I can see why it might have been too much for people at the time. Freya
  10. Everyone I've ever met who talks about Event Horizon raves on and on and on about it. I've never met people who didn't like it. The Stallone Dredd movie OTH... you may have a point! Freya
  11. You mean is in Arri Standard mount? Actually there are arri standard to PL mount adaptors out there. Could be worth a try. Lenses with focal lengths of 25mm and above have a good chance of working in Super16 too. If you fancy shooting in Super16. I actually think it's quite cool that your camera is Super16 but yeah... lenses... Freya
  12. Ah you meant it has a PL lens mount and not that it came with a PL mount lens. I see.
  13. but only to the memory cards and not to an external disc via HDMI or anything. Freya
  14. What PL mount lens did it come with? Maybe you can sell it and buy a cheap PL zoom of some kind. Or you could shoot with the lens you have. Or you could shoot with a standard 16 zoom and avoid the wider end of the zoom (probably will do your head in tho) Does the ground glass have marking for standard16 too? In that case you could just shoot standard 16 with standard 16 lenses on the camera. The lens is probably centered on Super16 if you shoot and zoom at the same time but then you probably don't want to do that. Freya
  15. I don't get what you mean. You say you want it to drop off into inky blacks but then you say you want to see right into the shadows but those two things are the opposite of one another. Freya
  16. Not quite the same thing but might be interesting in the context... Black Swan was Super16 cropped to 2.35:1
  17. I've noticed 4:3 seems to be making a huge comeback, especially in music videos where it seems to have suddenly become the cool thing. I think people are slowly starting to be more open minded about aspect ratios because of the wide range of devices that content is delivered on now. Freya
  18. Oh I guess you are right they have their own special police too:
  19. Police? Do you mean at the Barbican? I've never got as far as police being involved out there but I would have guessed they would have something special going on instead? Freya
  20. Here is a new place in Shoreditch East London! http://cameraworks.co.uk Freya
  21. You mean the third part of against the wild? How can it be against the wild without the dog? I thought the dog was the star of the series? Wait are dogs out now? You told me the secret to your success was the canine thing. Is that all over now!?? Freya
  22. Not to distract you too much from the third part of the trilogy but it's always worth keeping one eye on the future, or the also future... or something like that... Anyway I saw this and I thought of you Richard: Maybe this could inspire the next trilogy! It's making me think maybe I should get a dog... but then I travel a lot so it probably wouldn't work out well. Freya
  23. I think you are spot on Mark. Whenever I watch anything directed by Pedro Almodovar I find myself thinking about the beautiful cinematography. Freya
