  1. Dennis, Thanks for taking the trouble to do all that. I'll bash my head against it for the next while (couple of years given the way my brain works) and I may come back to you with some more questions if you have time or else just point me to a text etc. Much appreciated. Jeremy
  2. Dennis, That's very interesting, thanks for that explanation and also thanks to Steve for asking the questions. Can I ask a basic question: How do you do that/those calculation(s), forgive me if its a really basic thing?
  3. Good looking images, certainly shows the value of 2K scans on S8, add in some stablisation software and it should look fine. Nice looking city centre, which city?
  4. Yeah, I know it can get a bit grey here in Winter but the sunny days are brilliant for shooting, I've been testing a new S16 camera and shot some exteriors on a bright sunny day in a park here in London and the resutling images just zinged and that wasn't due to any expertise on my part just the crisp bright sunshine.
  5. Me please, December perhaps after the 15th......
  6. Love to go but I assume the tour will be during the day when I'm at work?
  7. Thats good news about the Odeon on Leicester Square, I was thinking anywhere outside of the US and Canada had been forgotten re Interstellar. I'll be off to that Odeon come Nov the 7th
  8. My only worry now is that Ferannia doesn't get themselves into a production bind or financial bind with the promise of film to contributors.
  9. Just made a pledge. I'm impressed by the video and I hope the Ferrania people are budgeting for contingencies in moving the equipment e.g. 20% on top of estimated costs at least.
  10. Not only Indies, I understand parts of Captain Phillips was on S16.
  11. Steve, An off-topic question: I was told that Dejonghe Post Production used to come to London once every few weeks on Eurostar to pick up film for processing and then hand carry the processed reels back. This apparently worked well and all you had to do was turn up at St Pancras and hand your films over. Is this true and if so did it work well and do they still do it?
  12. Gareth, I might be the 'Jeremy' you referred to above, thanks for correcting my information, it was based on a conversation last year with the Kodak rep when I was asking about opening an account with them and his reply was "£400 minimum order" so perhaps he and I miss-communicated. Its good to know, at least that I don't have to open an account but it does seem like pushing water uphill when dealing with Kodak in the UK compared with what other posters say about Kodak US, ironic now that Kodak is British owned. I can echo the others here about Frame 24, I have bought Fuji stock off them and found them very easy to deal with. I'm not sure if the Kodak 16 mm stock they are offering is new or being sold on unused from film projects but they seem to be determined to continue to make film available to as wide a range of people as possible.
  13. Alan, Interesting answer, this may be off topic but I wanted to ask, do you mean specialist items such as black leader or particular items that haven't been done before e.g. Vision 3 in DS8 runs. Is Kodak becoming more flexible in addressing the market such that they have removed a lot of costs and inherent inflexibility from their management/production structure so that they can produce whatever will sell product?
  14. I have to confess I've looked at Ultrapan8 as a play thing, to produce pretty pictures, thoughtful and artistic maybe but not narrative. This completely changed my perception. Gorgeous. Thanks.
  15. Do Kodak still make their carts or do they outsource them. BTW. Can anyone tell me how widespread perforators for S8 are?
  16. How much do new carts cost, doesn't Kodak hold the license for these? Where do people such as Pro8mm, Wittner, Ortho et al get their perforators from?
  17. Robert, Thanks for info, I would like to build my own small format scanner (8/16) but don't have much idea of how much machine vision cameras cost so that's useful information as I work through the various trade offs I'll need to make due to budget, etc. Off course I would want a mono 4 K CCD sensor with global shutter, externally triggered and pixels larger than 7 um built into an area scan camera that can deliver over 20 fps for a price I can afford............ but I doubt I'm gonna be able to afford that  .
  18. Robert, Thanks for posting this link.......... what is approximate cost of these cameras?
  19. Joe, If its me you are replying to then thanks very much for sending your message I'm after the bit at the end of the screwdriver plus the accompanying screw. Its a Canon Zoom DS8 camera of which a lot of the mechanics and the electronics are different but I am not sure if this bit is. Let me know what you think. Much appreciated.
  20. On a slightly different note, does anyone know where to get spare mechanical parts for Canon Zoom DS8s' or the scoopic? I've got a broken metal spindle that turns the supply reel. I've emailed the canonscoopic website- nothing as yet.
  21. I will have to dig out the formula but it revolved around Borax with the resulting solution heated to a particular temp and then timed in the Lomo tank. One thing that seemed to happen was that the solution lost effectiveness once it had been used on 2 or 3 films and the guy tutoring me suggested that the Borax needed replenishing.
  22. I was given hands on instructions for developing colour neg using a Lomo tank and the first part of the process was removing the remjet. This worked well it just required lots of washing to flush out both the now dissolved remjet and the solution used before going onto the first developing phase. The final task once the film was developed was to use a wet sponge to remove any remjet still clinging to the film but that really was just a check before hanging the film up to dry.
  23. Hi, I'm after a Canon Zoom DS8 I can canibalise for spare parts. If anybody has a broken down one they want to get rid of for a few pounds and is based in the UK let me know. A 16 mmm scoopic might also have the parts I want. Thanks
  24. Steve, The funny (hah, hah) thing was that the beeb used Spooks to promote its defunct HD channel though that channel may have used a different amount of bandwidth on transmission for Freeview but I still have yet to find any instance of Spooks, film, et al disturbing a compression chain from distribution through to transmission of programme material for either SD or HD. There could be one issue that is nothing to do with compression etc and that is telecine transfer. Back when this 'ban' came into force access to HD or 2K telecine transfer at a reasonable price may have been a limiting factor for series work in TV.
