This wonderful beast of a camera has a mechanical shutter, 16-bit raw, up to 120 FPS, beautiful skin tones and wonderful sharpness. Such an amazing camera. 4. Thanks so much for these - double leko sounds cool or double joker. And a m18 sounds still the most versatile for a low-budget - putt-putt generator 2500w guy for lighting. Thanks again guys Ed
  5. Hi guys Just saw Dayveon at the Berlinale film festival - gorgeous film by Dustin Lane. I am seeing how he made this super natural daylight beam hitting his bed? I always try to make a beam, using a joker 800 or jo leko and it always feels kind of fake - is it just using some 1/4 or 1/2 cto on the light - and maybe it is a jo-leko? thanks

  8. Hi guys - apologize if this has been asked before doing a high speed 240 FPS shooting in an existing hospital - question - can I switch out the overhead tubes for kino bulbs and not have flicker? and can I use LED lighting like litemats? what can i get away with besides flicker-free HMIs bouncing into ceilings, etc etc? thanks! Ed
  9. HI guys I'm looking at litegear rgb chroma light as a way to quickly make colored party gel looks for shoots. wondering if there is another LED film lighting manufacturer that also does this? Just seeing what the options are thanks ed
  10. thank you guys - your knowledge is incredibly useful. The last time I used party gels was back in like 2008 with the hxv200 and I was an idiot for stopping at that because that camera could not handle color at all. I'm going to start doing some testing asap now that I have the sony f35 which can handle color much much much much better.
  11. thank you very much - just ordered the Storaro collection and will start using all this stuff asap.
  12. I just watched "Beast of No Nations" which I highly recommend - it's on netflix. And the deep reds and blues and orange. And then there is Spring Breakers that has the most amazing deep color. What do you guys use as tools to create these deep colors - is it a certain Lee gel over a tungsten light - is it special colored kino bulbs. I know it depends on the scene - but does anyone have a fall-back type of light they like to use for making these really deep colors?
  13. thanks guys for all this help - that dedolight seems super useful - the shot is in the shot - and the vault has already been built so probably using the crappy puck light led things you can get at the home depot oh well next time. but that dedolight thingy sounds great
  14. Hi all I am doing a scene in a minituarized stop motion bank vault - -and I want to put a light in it shooting straight down onto a bag of money- act as like a xenon spotlight - but with a smaller size - almost like LED size - it the literibbon perhaps the punchiest, small led strip that could work? let me know what you think - I can't think of many other options that would be small and spotty. we see the whole vault in the shot
  15. Shooting multicam coverage helps for continunity - and does make you go faster -the lighting can't always be tweeked as well but I do it all the time for speed. A lot of shoots can go this way. Single camera setups can be better for performance because one actor can relax - but if you are knocking out a OTS and a CU clean yes you can easily go for it with 2 cameras as long as you can get them in there. Now with digital more and more shoots have multiple cameras to cover dialogue scenes.
  16. Amazing thread guys - going from the blacks from film vs digital and the history of it all, and mixing in some discussions on what it means to be an artist, or post-modernist theory on the self - and it's pretty epic, and it reeled itself back in. This is my new favorite forum. Thank you all. That's why I gave $50. Keep this site alive - amazing how you guys all handle yourselves so well.
  17. I will represent anyone - if you have a great attitude and are fun to be with on set - you can pull focus or operate for me any day. The DP is many other position's agent - and we take no percentage! Email me at ed@kittyguerrilla.com if you would like a spot on my roster :)
  18. always take out the bulb and travel with it in the carry on - and keep your bulbs in small pelican cases - I have lost so many joker bulbs
  19. I use both a lot - joker 1600 is much better for travel - smaller. But overall Joker build is not the same as Arri - Arri seems to make all their lighting really strong and better for renting. But you can't beat a joker 800 for jo leko or just traveling small with it - a lot easier to handle and to fly with if you need to. and the m18 can sometimes be finicky - no HMI is perfect - all about the ballast. but really - yes if you can - try to test both out at the same time - I would be curious about the difference in quality of light.
  20. I shot a scene with blacklight and man it needs a lot of bulbs to get enough exposure to be suitable at the t stop you want to get to.
  21. Another way I lit up a car is 2 x 10k freshnels into a 20x20 overhead and you can also put some kinos low on the ground to create light what is important is color of the car, what kind of finish it has - and how you want to stylize the light
  22. litemats look great - thanks didn't know they existed - but still that china ball softness and uniformity is really something special - I think maybe literibbons china ball is the way to do it for me in the meantime what would I need to build a chicken coop - or does someone have something already kind of - could be a cool DIY solution for a bunch of stuff
