Yeah, I have used the HD100 wit the M2. It's was pretty ok. Not as sharp as I would like it to be, but the real limitation was the Nikon stills lenses. They just breathe too much to use in any professional production for my tastes. I think if you are doing some serious work you should rent some PL motion picture lenses. About that article, it's really a great piece, very informative. But it's quite dated already and since them new 35mm adapter have hit the market, like the Brevis and the Sgpro, which I find both better than the M2. Specially the Sgpro. The latest demo clip is incredibly sharp and has the nicest bokeh of all the 35mm adapters in my opinion. They are about to release a PL mount version, which I?m tempted to get. If I ever buy one of those adapters it will have to be a PL mount.

Did Jim or anybody else from RED actually blamed any companies? All I saw was somebody else throwing a joke about SONY. Or are you talking about something that happened on another forum?

Look, if you noticed, I barely post on the RED forums. I?m just following the camera?s development and waiting to see, instead of putting the thing down before it?s even out or shooting the RED team?s leader with false accusations and personal attacks that have nothing to do with cinematography. That's quite strange Stephen. I have used OCT-19 Lomos and they are pretty sharp. There is a movie shot in 35mm with Lomo and Zeiss glass (forgot the name) and even if you are a professional, you can't easily tell what shot is what. The audience would never tell. What lenses did you throw away?

Yep. It?s really not far off from the 4K Red image posted. The only difference is that your frame grab is like 1?x1? on the screen and the 4K from RED is a full screen one. For somebody that criticized Jim for no being a production guy and for so being forgiven for a minor mistake, you seem to know even less about Digital production. That?s the only explanation I can find for somebody posting a 1?x1? image from a ¼? low-end consumer camera and saying it?s not far off from a full screen 4K frame grab. Dude, you can choose to miss the point as much as you want, but please, don?t make a fool of yourself in a public forum. If you think the Red makes a $17,500 image because it costs $17,500, do you think a F900 makes a $130,000 image then? I know an Arri 535 is not a multi-million dollar camera so your point that you get what you pay for holds no water for starters. Besides that, the point is Red is $17,500 and if the moving images do any justice to that 4K frame posted it?s obvious it will burn a F900 or a F950 and they cost over $100,000. Are you sure you are getting what you?re paying for with Red?

Ok then, let me re-phrase Jim's question then. That's from a guy who have owned a GL1 and know what a piece of s... it is even compared to a 1/2" DV camera, let alone a 35 sized chip camera capable of 4k. Anyways, if you love film so much and are such a huge film bigot, what are you doing with a Digital camera in the first place? Why do you have a GL1 instead of a Super8 camera or even a 16mm one?

What kind of moronic question is that? Images look fantastic by the way! Maybe because it is NOT 35mm? Would that explain why the images don't look like 35mm? I guess that's a quite reasonable explanation actually. What do you think?

David is right. It was shot in HD. The directors and Jason Statham himself had said so. I’m not sure what camera though. They could have mixed cameras, using bigger cameras when they could and small 1/3" ones for the action stuff. A lot of it looks like 1/3” cameras. I saw a picture where I could swear the camera was a XL series one. If so, probably the H1 since the XL2 is SD.

You must be handling it wrong. I have seen amazing results with color corrected HD100 footage.

What I always knew about Lomos is that they are rated in meters and F-stops as opposed to inches and T-stops like most cine lenses in the U.S.

I agree Keith. I think even if it's only compressed 8bit, it better to color correct it on a uncompressed 10bit system than on compressed 8bit system. At least it would degrade any farther.

But I think it would at least avoid farther degradation. Specially if it will undergo heavy color correction or compositing in post. At least it would not degrade more than the original footage or if using the original tapes.

If you want to bypass the stock lens, the P+S Mini35 is the only quality alternative so far. About PL to 1/3", I think JVC is coming out with an adapter for the HD100 that will allow 16mm lenses to be used. I think it's a PL.

Looks great Michael. I went to your website and saw some H1 clips. The color ones, are they 1080i or 24/30f? It looks interlaced. I also saw some HD100 BW footage. Do you have any HD100 in color around there? I couldn't find any.
