  1. Looks great! Any diffusion used anywhere? The F750 is 25p or 1080i?
  2. That's true to any camera in the market, if by DTE you mean recording to a firestore(portable). It records the very same stream the tape recorder records. If you just want to record direct to a PC HDD, and have the money to afford buying a system capable of recording it, the HD100 has HD component out, which gives you uncompressed 4:2:2. If you really want HD 4:4:4, you will need to buy a $150,000 Viper camera. But since you are asking about the HD100, I would presume you can't even afford a $50,000 Varicam, so I don't see how you will record 4:4:4 (expensive) or why you even want it. 4:4:4 work flow is very expensive! Of course there's always rent. But it's still expensive. Sure. There's a firewire port in every HD100 (PAL or NTSC)
  3. How this videoLAN compares to HDVrack for monitoring HD (lighting, focus, color)?
  4. Client has requested the super shallow focus look. But I may still be able to talk them out, if I have a strong point. But honestly, I think the shallow dof is the way to go for this project. I'm only concerned it will look too soft on wide shots when projected. What's the biggest screen you think I can project 720p without it going soft?
  5. That's what I thought too, but I saw an Old Navy spot shot on the Varicam with the pro35 and it didn't blow the HD100+mini35 test I saw. But I'm sure the Varicam+Pro35 is the better set up. I'm just considering my options. Also, considering if I should use one of those adapters at all, or just shoot with a zoom, in case of the Varicam.
  6. The particularly project I was hired to shoot and am considering to shoot with the set up, only needs to be projected digitally, on the biggest possible screen, meaning the biggest screen where it will still looks good. I?m hoping for at least a 35 feet screen, since there will be around 400-500 seats in the room. It?s an one time only projection for a presentation. After that, it may end up in a DVD, although in a very small number of copies. Not for sale or anything. About diffusion, I would use none at all. Not even for close ups. I feel you can always add it in post, but if it?s too soft, you can?t go back. So basically, I need to decided if a HD100 with a mini35 would be enough for the project, or if the expense of hiring a pro35 + Varicam would be justified. I already own a HD100 and can get a hold of a mini35 for basically free. Did you use anamorphic lenses with the pro35? I thought it wasn?t possible because of the 2x squeeze and the cameras are 16:9. How did it come out?
  7. What camera Adam? When can we expect to see something? You actually prefer the zooms over film primes? Did I misunderstand? You say too soft for film-out, but how about digital projection from a Windows HD file or some other HD file?
  8. I'm not sure I agree 30's and 40's lenses are better than a 80's or 90's Lomo. Lens coating and mechanicals evolved a lot in the 50 years gap. Besides what I know is that neither new Nikons or the Planars still lenses are as sharp and the Lomo and they sure are not as good mechanically. Unless you are talking about those old Lomo 35mm still cameras.
  9. Mitch I found the post you are talking about. I also found some of David's. I'm looking now for some online footage done with the Pro35 and Varicam or F900. I always liked footage from the Mini35, but always found it a little too soft in DV. Then I saw footage from the mini35 with the HD100( a HD camera) and I loved it. At least the m2t files were very sharp. Not sure in a film out. So I'm wondering how much better would the Varicam or F900 be with the Pro35, and if it would be worth the extra rental cost. Anybody know of any online footage? Thanks.
  10. Anybody has experience with using the P+S Pro35 with a HD camera like a Sony F900 or the Panasonic Varicam? How did it hold up? Do you know of any links with footage? Thanks.
  11. Don't RX Switar lenses take a prism into consideration as well? I thought RX lenses may be good in a 3 CCD camera?
  12. Just in case the question wasn't clear, the reason I'm asking is because I know lenses made for video take into consideration the splitting prism 3 CCD cameras have to split the spectrum in 3 (red, blue, green). So it's said lenses made for film have poor performance with 3 CCD cameras. But since the RX was made for the Bolex that had some sort of prism, I was wondering if the RX Switars would have good performance in a 3CCD video camera. Should I post this question in the film forum, since it's a film lens? Thanks.
  13. A regular Switar or a RX version? Talking about a 3CCD C mount camera head. Thanks.
  14. So far what I heard is that Switar is the best glass for C mount. I heard good things about the Xenon 25mm, but not about the Cinegon 10mm. The Switars 10mm and 26mm on the other hand was all praise. So I think Switar it is.
  15. Interesting. Please keep us posted how the Switar and Schneider compare when you get your footage back.
  16. So, if I understood it right, the RX version of the Switar is not good for non RX cameras, because it splits the beam. It should be used in the Bolex RX only. But the RX version is best for 3 CCD cameras, for the same reason. Is that it? If so, that's interesting to know. Concerning the quality between Schneider and Switar, most who I have asked are voting for the Switars. That would be Schneider Xenon 25mm and Cinegon 10mm versus Switar 26mm and 10mm.
  17. Cool! Where did you find the mounting bracket and the adapter connector plug? Did you trash a whole video camera to take the viewfinder and the parts?
  18. Do the same apply with Cinegons in your opinion, or are they the same, Cinegon and Xenon? How did you mount a C mount lens in a video camera? Which video camera was it, XL1? Most people have been telling me Switars are the sharpest C mount lenses you can buy. Do you have the model numbers and speed? Do you mean the Jena, Cosmicar are sharper than the Switar as well? I heard terrible things about Cosmicar. They are CCTV lenses. Not sharp enough. Also, is not the Jenas made for 35mm still?
  19. Nobody has used any of them? Hard to believe, as they are the most used C mount 16mm lenses.
  20. In terms of sharpness, resolution, color rendition, contrast, distortion and just over all quality, which are the best C mount primes, Switar or Schneider Cine Xenon? Also, just to clarify, no RX cameras can use RX lenses right? Thanks.
  21. Do you mind saying which seller you are talking about? It could help people who don't know about him.
  22. I'm sorry about that. What's his ebay name? So we won't buy from him.
  23. Yeah, but what do you do with the camera then? Unless you shot 35mm as well, buying the camera for the lenses only doesn't seem pratical. Besides, the camera you post the link to is way over priced. Even with 2 sets of lenses . I just saw a Konvas with 5 lenses sell for under $900 and a konvas body only for $400 a week ago on Ebay. What Lomos did you get and how much did you pay?
  24. Hey David, you have the very fast ones? I heard for use with a Mini35 or Micro35 it needs to be the fast ones.
