  1. I am but mostly a Director /Writer/ Producer/ Editor. The DP' ing comes with the whole package :)
  2. I'm going crazy, because I'm in teh middle of production right now and I can't pick it up until Oct-Nov, luckly someone will be the lucky one Best ps: I wish it could be me, I'm still praying with all my heart!!!
  3. I agree big time!!!, even do you could still make a great story on a cheaper format and then move on into much more expensive formats Best
  4. Hello Film crazy brothers! This is an eternal discussion that I feel I can support something new: I love shooting on film an as a lot of you know I just bought the revolutionary Eclair NPR, modified by MR Les Bosher to S16 and pl mount. The main reasons I bought this are, 1) I wanted to have my own camera pickup a project and do it, my style no one else's 2) about style, I love cross processing, I been studying it for years now, shot it on all kinds of formats, all kinds of stocks, and let me tell you, if you learn and go deeper that the usual, "it's just an experiment", you will have great results 3) about 3 or some years ago I pickup this left over project, called "Art Officially Favored" about a Berkeley Street musician named Michael Masley, because of budget and the intensity of this musician, I knew that shooting this on film will have been pretty costly, so I decided to go with Mini-dv, but with a twist, I said what about if I could do Cross Processing with digital??? So I went to my father's lab ( he is a photographers technician) and we spend a whole week going through looks and presets on a DVX-100A ( to me similar historically with the NPR), and said- ok what about if we fu** around with the glass?, a lot of the time the look starts from there we open the camera, and we change parts of the glass with other brands of glass that my father had in his lab as parts. we used Cooke, Canon, Nikon and Zeiss glass leaving some of the Leica in there to. The result? more pop, more contrast, more depth, and appreciation for color. Then we went into the elctronics, ( great piece of machine) and soon we realize that the color was not only in the setting but also it was an optical effect and adapting the physical theory of Cross Process we transfer taht " digitally into teh cam", and the look is not the same but is a complete transformation of the horrendous dv "flat" look. The colors are insane, and combine with the glass it makes it great on post, now I don't need to change anything or CC, If I know what I want I just do it like that , no more Magic Bullet of any of those programs that just add noise, We call it Digital Cross Processing? ( not really originals) Right know I'm experimenting with greens and yellow looks, they seem to be the ones that support it the best, Reds are great to a certain point and blue's are the same, the information is to many for those little chips, I did try the technique on a VAricam and a Cinealta and I was like Wholy crap!!! Anyhow in terms of Film look, I just think that's just the name that bother alot of people, is definatly different and we should be happy about that, more in the pallete for us creative filmmakers BEst
  5. that's a really nice cam, anyhow, you should call teh guy, and teh same time pay with paypal or something were you can get your money back or something Best
  6. it seems that they don't have permission to post this so watch fast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krh0k0Ze33I BEst
  7. You have a great point there, I actually never heard you say that , so sorry for not paying the proper attention My goal is to produce my own feature projects by the end of this great year, you are right the ratio is key Thanks for that great advice, still I think I'm shooting for the Canon 8-64, because of the sharpness and versatile of the glass, ( the Cooke is great to, but as yet I have not seen anything done on the Cooke to appreciated more) Any Examples? Best
  8. I just saw this interview with Raimi, talking about how much fun they had making the evil dead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBtRnpmH0LY I feel people sometimes they forget how great is to be in the industry we are at, and how much experimentation takes in our life's passion. Best
  9. THANKS MAc I actually I'm looking for specific films there were shot with the Canon 8/64, just to see how they manage with the images, I can try it , yes I can, but looking at a film is cheaper hehe Best
  10. Great congratulations!!!!! it was in your favor all a long man that guy can go and die in a freaking ditch man
  11. Hey Marc Well I'm actually in the same debate than Matt, but I wonder, which films have you done with the 8/64 Canon that you blown up to 35mm? I will love to see some of them, anything I can rent ? For know this are my top choices: Canon 8/64 " 11.5/138 Cooke 10.4/52 Zeiss 12/120 t2.4 I want a zoom, because their versatility and quickness Best
  12. Also which city did you shoot this at?
  13. Well basically the lens and teh stock that you use, yes filters help to change and accommodate your look but the first 2 are the ones that really make a difference. BEst
  14. he-he well I'm actually saving for either a great lens ( CANON, Cooke, Zeiss, yeap in that order) or get a really nice set of primes ( like the OPtars)
  15. Really Nice footage, is amazing that Written in Stone is not in IMDB, is a really well done omvie, it reminded me of those doc of the National Geo. back in the 80, really nice I just bought a Super 16 cam, if not I would off consider your package Good luck selling it
  16. will see what happens, I will love to see all kinds of thing been projected at 4k starting with Red, 35mm, 65mm and man, even Super 16!!!, but of course super 16 will have a top on res at 3k Now I also heard a study that the human eye can't detect more than 2 to 3k res, but yet I guess teh ultimate goal is to have a projection power that can , instead of showing a movie in wall, to have window that can look as reality itself and I think the more people keep working at it will get to that futuristic point I hope that makes sense hehehe
  17. .... hey you can make a movie like El Mariachi with this nice video cam He He
  18. I really Like the time lapse, really cool footage!! but the music video was to dark for me, I love the little light bulbs, but I think if you want it to make it muddy, probably was better to use some kinos above the band, or to make the lighting more dramatic, more edgy, creating crazy shadows, but overall it was a good video I love the slow motion stuff Best
  19. Man this is a great package! do you have any footage with it? Best
  20. It looks really nice, I hate music, and teh story is just stupid, but the camera looks like it perfom really nice BEst
