  1. Hello, I have a Canon Scoopic M that I used this summer to shoot a short in Europe. I blew out S-12 Charger one (drunken) night in Rome. Forgot to put the American electric adapter on the end of the cord. Does anyone know if this is an easy fix? Would a batter store be capable to fix my S-12 Charger with an issue like this? Thanks
  2. Excuse me for this, I will contact mr tyler! best
  3. Last summer I made a 16mm film and was given a great amount of technical and tactical help from these forums. This film became "American Watercolors". In it, I drive an old Datsun B210 from New Mexico to the ocean. The camera I used was my grandfathers Bell & Howell 240 and I learned after the fact that there was a registration issue with the camera which is what caused all of the melding and mushing of image. The film has shown this year at the Johns Hopkins Film Festival, Indie Grits Film Festival & Athens of Ohio Film & VIdeo Festival. I leave in 3 days for a 5 week road journey of Europe and I will be creating another film similar to American Watercolors. This time I plan on using voicemails from people we encounter on the road as a sonic layer to better help specify site and narrative... Any thoughts on this or other work I have uploaded to Vimeo is more than welcome and appreciated! Best
  4. I am bumping this because I've been doing quite a bit more research into this matter. It was suggested by a mentor of mine that I might use an Eclair NPR or ACL. It's obviously more expensive and bigger but it also looks small enough to work with feasibly on the run. Paired with a decent lens I feel like this set up could give me everything I am looking for. I am wondering what you might realistically pay for with these types of set up. For example an Eclair NPR body, Mags + Angeneioux 12-120 zoom? Are we talking 1200, 1500, 2000?? more? appreciate any insight & best
  5. Hi, new member here. I asked a question over in the 16mm forum about purchasing a camera and got incredible responses so I thought I'd ask another perplexing question. I'll be traveling to Cambodia, Kenya & Ecuador this summer to make my newest film. I will probably take 1000-2000 feet of film in 100 foot spools. So my question, how does traveling with film work? Don't you have to get everything X-Rayed when you travel by plane? What is the best way to approach shooting film when traveling to different countries?? Any ideas are much appreciated! Thanks
  6. Honestly about the 240, i'm just nervous with it. I'd feel more comfortable buying something a bit more professional, with greater lens options (50 & 35 or 16 would be great) so I can zoom in and out if I wish. I like your idea of the Beaulieu R 16, i'll be looking into it. Thank you It was suggested that perhaps I loaded the film incorrectly causing the registration problem. I shot 700 ft on 100ft rolls however so I had a hard time believing that I made the same mistake every single time. ++ I got one of the hitch hikers I picked up outside Flagstaff AZ to load the last roll of film as we entered California. I suppose I was telling him how to do it though so maybe I screwed up the whole scenario. The good news is that my best friend who is a 16mm wiz is moving back from San Fran on Saturday to live with me as a I prepare for my next film so I plan on utilizing his knowledge so I"m 100% ready for this film. Lastly, is that your website? You sell cameras through?
  7. WOW! A TROVE of information. Just what I was hoping for! Thank you all for your comments I already feel much more confident in thinking about this. I was thinking wind up probably makes most sense, I'd prefer not to work with batteries. From what I'm gathering I'm probably best off grabbing a Bolex. I can spend upwards of 1000 on a camera so I will probably just go that route, shoot a bit of test in March and get it transfered at colorlab in DC before I head out in MAY. As to my film American Watercolors, yes I shot the whole film using mostly single frame pulls. Then I broke down the footage in post to super slow motion. The registration problems definitely worked in my favor but I want more control for this film because I plan on doing site specific sound and voice over something more akin to Sans Soleil (just as a reference point!) Thanks again everyone for the help, all of your expertise on this subject is greatly appreciated!! Best S
  8. Hi all, I don't frequent these parts that often so please excuse me if I offend any with a simple question. I am a filmmaker that likes to travel and shoot on the go. My last film American Watercolors ( ) is like a big gif film in a way and that's the way I plan on shooting my next film this summer in kenya and cambodia. I used a belle and howell 240 and as you can see I had terrible registration issues. I need to buy a new 16mm and of course plenty of film. I have an H4 zoom for recording sound. I'm pretty confident with the film stock stuff. My question is then what can I find in the 250-500 dollar range that is light, small and reliable. My approach is fluid so I'm not too worried about perfection, I'm happy for the camera and the film to have it's imperfections and flaws. I do not need a tripod. I know this is a noobish question but any suggestions would be really helpful! best S
  9. Furthermore I read on here of aluminum foil being used to wrap a body? Black electrical tape perhaps? I know this is shoddy but I need to feel confident
  10. I found a belle and Howell 240 in my grandpas attic. I've tested it and mechanically it's in fine shape. The light meter doesn't work but I've shot enough on film to ballpark it and the kind of films I make encourage over/under exposures! (Silent experimental stuff a la Jonas mekas without the narrative) My is such: is there any way I can tell from the exterior if there is a leak in the body? From what I can see , everything closes firm. Assuming there isn't a way to check without processing film, can I make a black tarp/cover to wrap around the camera? Ill be just pointing and shooting from the hip so comfort is not a factor? I'm just terrified ill shoot my film ( a burial road trip for my 1977 Datsun across the southwest) and then the film destroyed... I can't ask my grandpa sadly enough but I found a ton of beautifully exposed 16 mm in/around the box with the 240 Any advice is GREATLY appreciated
