  1. The camera's finder is fixed straight out the back. Arri made a periscope finder attachment that the say is for left eye viewing with 400' mags. It appears to be rotatable also but I can't be sure as I've never handled one.
  2. I'd like to know if the periscope finder ( specifically on the 16 st) is rotatable to higher and lower viewing positions. I've looked all over the web and can't find any detailed info other than extending for left eye viewing. Thanks

  4. I think the best solution for those on a budget is used stage or tv studio lights. There are plenty of Altman, Colortran and the like fresnels on the used market. They are very well made and much cheaper than Arri lights.

  6. thanks for the info. The t mount is an interesting idea. I remember there were lots of lenses back in the day, but their performance is probably not very good. I think tamron made t mount. I was actually hoping some of the russian lenses would work so I'll look further into that.
  7. sorry for the confusion. I have an Arriflex 16SB which takes either Arri standard or bayonet lenses. I'm wondering if there are other lenses that can easily be adapted to it. All the adapters I've noticed fit arri mount lens to other cameras. I'm looking for other lenses to the arri body. obviously the lenses would have to be longer FFD than 52mm (IIRC)
  8. Are there any lenses available to fit through adapters for arri standard or bayonet mount, other than the usual cine xenon kinetal etc? I understand flange focal distance etc and have searched for adapters but can't find this sort of thing.
  9. I love my fresnels, but the open face lights get used just as often through 4x4 diff, and bounce. Get at least the DP in addition to the fresnels.
  10. I'm looking for a decent quality but inexpensive (!?) transfer of about 2500 feet of 16mm. It's old Sunday School Picnic footage for a church anniversary, so I'm trying to help out. I've gotten some prices of around $1000, but they can't spend that much. I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks

  12. Most light instrument beams are brightest in the middle, and reduce intensity toward the edge. If you point the center of the beam towards 10, the less intense edges will illuminate the closer points respectivly (98765...) You will have to play with the focus or type of reflector to get this to work, and it won't be perfect. Also, raising the height of the lighting instrument will help with this. Of course, you can also use multiple or graduated scrims.
  13. Thanks for the advice. The lights I only meant to use under the tenting, I won't have to worry about the daylight otherwise. I've only done this thing on a small scale so I'm not sure how far away from the action at the door I need to keep the solids. I'd love to see an example of this somewhere, then I could see what I could actually get away with.
  14. I'm planning a tv spot for a sports bar/restaurant. The first shot is the marquis at dusk. the second shot is interior looking towards the front doors where people are entering. I think it needs to be day for night, (we're shooting in the a.m. before opening) but I don't have a lot to handle that. The sidewalk has a roof over it. I can rig a 12x12 solid 6 feet outside the doors, or will I need yards of duvetyne? Should I use a light or 2 gelled to mimic urban night outside, or just let it dark to not draw attention? I can't find too many examples of something like this for inspiration. Thanks for any suggestions
  15. There are also MINI apple boxes in full, 1/2, 1/4. They're a little more than half the size of regular ones.

  17. btw, anyone know what the little loophole in the top casting is for? You're not supposed to tether stands, right?
  18. It's a manfrotto 111u, tall steel cine stand. (not the wind up). it's about 12' high, and 5' when folded. It does have a slightly smaller footprint than a combo or high roller. I think 42" I have other big stands, just got a good deal on this and never used one with the high braced legs.

  20. We use GE Cinema Plus and Osram DULUX lamps in various fluorescent fixtures. I don't think they're much cheaper than KinoFlo, but there's no question that they're matched to regular ballasts.

  22. quartz lamps also produce UV radiation (not quite radioactive), but not as much as (unshielded) HMI. If you shoot artwork you'll find out. You can do a lot with 3 redheads and some scrims and diffusion. Keep some spare lamps around because they will pop. Keep a lower wattage lamp in case you want to use one direct with the others bounced or diffused
