  5. All films submitted to the Edinburgh Short Film Festival are watched twice by different members of the selection committee, films are picked on merit, creativity, and on how all aspects of the film work together to create a strong work. I can't speak for how other festivals operate so can't comment on whether they all operate with integrity but
    from our point of view, we not only watch all films submitted but also send acknowledgement emails to every submitter, so they are aware their entry has been received and will be assessed.

    From our perspective it makes no sense not to watch the entries because our aim is to become recognised for strong programming and in order to
    curate a strong programme, you need to ensure all the films submitted are assessed.

    Star name doesn't necessarily assist the film but won't do it any harm, usually a star name is at least a decent actor/actress though!

  8. With new awards and global tours, the Edinburgh Short Film Festival is a highly pro-active festival with over 20 screenings across the world

    Also offering cash prizes and industry mentoring to the film-maker who wins the Best Film AND the best Animation at this year's ESFF!

  9. We’re delighted to reveal that we have finalised the details on a new festival partnership with the USA’s largest dedicated short film festival on the US East coast, DC Shorts based in Washington!


    The partnership begins during our 2018 editions and will see the ESFF prepare a programme of some of our best short films for screening at DC Shorts in September 2018!


    We’re also reciprocating and DC Shorts will programme for our festival in Autumn of 2018.


    BUT THE BEST NEWS IS:


    We’ve also agreed to offer our entrants a 20% discount on submissions to the other festival and this offer is now open, so anyone submitting to this year’s ESFF will also get a 20% discount on submitting to DC Shorts!

    Screening the best in International contemporary short cinema in Edinburgh each Autumn and curating programmes for other festivals across the UK & Internationally.


    This year, we're excited to be programming films for our 2017 partners:

    Asia's largest short film event, Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia based in Tokyo, as well as the Sardinia Film Festival, Australia's Scots Day Out and Hidden Door in Edinburgh and we can also announce that we will be partnering the Barcelona International Short Film Festival for 2017


    We're also planning to expand our awards structure with prizes for Best Director & Best Animation!

  12. Edinburgh Short Film Festival Submissions Now Open for 2016


    Screening the best in International contemporary short cinema at venues across the Scottish capital - beginning on October 26 2016.

    Dedicated and passionate about short film, The Edinburgh Short Film Festival has brought some of the best contemporary Scottish, UK and international short film to the Scottish capital since its inception in 2011.


    Each year we curate screenings of some of our best short films for international festivals around the world and the best submissions for 2016 will also be included in our short film programming for other festivals across the UK and Internationally. This year we are excited to announce that we have a collaboration project with Japan's biggest short film festival, Short Shorts

    Film Festival, we're taking short films to film festivals and events in Italy AND we have the Rising Star Trophy for the most promising new film-maker, sponsored by the Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund.

  13. The Edinburgh Short Film Festival is now open for submission for 2016 and we'll be screening the best in contemporary short film in Scotland's beautiful & ancient capital city in October 2016.

    This year we're planning some exciting collaboration projects from working with Japan's biggest short film festival, Short Shorts Film Festival to curating short film programmes for the the Sardinia Film Festival as well as Hidden Door in May, Edinburgh's own, unique, arts festival.

    In addition to that, we're working with the Rio Short Film Festival and bringing the best Rio-made shorts to Edinburgh while we're also programming shorts for their 2016 festival.
    We're also keeping our fingers crossed and hoping to take short films to the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival in September and on top of all that, we're also programming for the Scots Day Out festival in Australia in February! We're pretty much coast to coast this year!

    If that's not enough, we're also now offering the Rising Star Award for the most promising new film-maker!

  14. Short Films Wanted! The Edinburgh Short Film Festival has opened it's call for entries for the
    2016 edition.


    The best submissions for 2016 will be included in our short film programming for other festivals

    across the UK and Internationally during 2016 as well as being
    screened at the Edinburgh Short Film Festival in October-November 2016.

    We will also be working closely with our partner festivals and are planning on programming
    some of our best films from 2015 for the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival in September 2016 and
    the Sardinia Film Festival in June 2016. We're also programming short film for Edinburgh's
    remarkable arts festival Hidden Door in May.

    In addition, we can confirm we'll be curating for Japan's biggest short film festival,Short
    Shorts in Tokyo and we are delighted to play host to a hand-picked selection of Japanese short
    film for our 2016 edition later this year.

    We're also now offering the Rising Star Award for the most promising film-maker with a cash
    prize, tickets to film festivals, offers of work and the Rising Star Trophy sponsored by the
    Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund.

    And if that's not enough, we're also planning lively networking events, Q & A sessions, meet
    the film-makers, panel discussions and even some live music!

    Submissions are now open for films under 20 mins (any genre) so get your skates on!

  15. The Deadline for submissions to the 2015 Edinburgh Short Film Festival is fast approaching!

     

    Last call for entries will be on June 29th 2015!

    The ESFF will be programming short films for festivals and arts events across the world from Tobermory to the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival and from the Sardinia Film Festival to Stornoway in the Scottish Western Isles!

    And of course, we’ll be screening the best films submitted at venues across Scotland's beautiful capital city during the Edinburgh Short Film Festival in November!

    As well as taking short film on tour across the world, we’re also delighted to announce that we have teamed up with International Charity Organisation

    Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund to award the Rising Star Award for the best film made by a Director aged 16-25 or a first-time director! With a cash prize as well as on set work experience and tickets to film festivals!

    This year's full touring programme has now been finalised and we're excited to announce that we will be curating short film programmes from some of this year's best short film submissons for:

  17. This year's Edinburgh Short Film Festival is once again open for entries,screening the best in contemporary International short cinema alongside Scottish& UK short films in Scotland's ancient capital!
    The Festival will run from 11th November 2015 to 22nd November 2015

    This year we're developing a film exchange programme with the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival, taking short film to the Scottish Islands, curating short film screenings at the Hidden Door Art Festival in Edinburgh in May 2015, hosting a night of Chinese documentary and screening our regular eclectic and diverse programme of outstanding and award-winning contemporary British and World short cinema in November 2015.

    The Edinburgh International Film Festival are kindly offering an award for the Most Creative Short Film at this year's Edinburgh Short Film Festival. The prize for the winner - to be chosen by a joint judging panel and announced at our closing night party - will be 1 delegate pass to all industry events at this year's EIFF.
