  1. Hi Frank, I think you are making a few assumptions here. In 1987 I assisted Ronnie Taylor, BSC on a movie called The Experts.Ronnie who had shared the cinematography Oscar for Gandhi used K35 or Canon lenses as they were referred. Ronnie had his choice of anything and he chose K35 with a BNC mount on Panavision G cameras. Ronnie had used K35 several times and Dick Bush like Ronnie would have had a choice . In the 1980's the choices of Panavision spherical lenses were either super speeds, ultra speeds or Z series nothing great when compared to the late 1980's release of the Primo seri
  2. This film is a remake of the 1968 Mel Brooks production which is much better. John Bailey was the original cinematographer and had a falling out with the director.
  3. I used the Elaine in 1988 on a series and from an assistants point of view a good camera. It was a mini Panaflex with a slightly less complicated Mitchell movement. It was quite compared to its competitors, easy to reload and assistant friendly. Only 26 were ever produced.

  11. In 1987 I was the 2nd AC for Ronnie on a very forgettable movie starring John Travolta called 'The Experts'. Ronnie was a true gentleman and a talented cinematographer who had many stories about his career. He had saved the call sheet from the funeral procession scene in Gandhi which was one of his first days after taking over from the ailing Billy Williams. The scene was shot in one day with 4 operated cameras and a lock off and 500,000 extras !

  19. I have a lot of friends who worked on the show and every story you will hear about how tough is was are probably true. For what was basically a one camera production it is stunning . I look forward to your opinion of Star Wars. Regards, Tim
  20. Hi Tyler, Thanks for your critic of The Revenant , I am looking forward to it . There are a couple of things in your critic that need clarification. Most of the crew was Canadian and from either Calgary or Vancouver and returned most nights to their homes or hotels in calgary. The only helicopter on the production was often used as a wind machine . While most of The Revenant was shot in Alberta , a small sequence was shot on the west coast in british Columbia and when the snow disappeared the production finished up in Argentina . Thanks for your posts and I look forward to reading more.
