  1. I ended up getting the AM camera HD tap and it’s pretty solid. Truly flicker free. And the remote is handy for locking exposure. You could** pull off of the image if you had to, if you get the exposure right and if the dynamic range isn’t too extreme. I would recommend!
  2. Hi! Also very curious about this. Just bumping this thread to see if anyone has any new insights to share on AZ spectrum vs hypertap vs AM camera?
  3. Hi! I’m looking to buy an Arri SR3. I’m based in LA. Open to international sellers. Just must be willing to ship to a third party for a pre sale inspection. Thanks! Victor victor@tadashi.tv
  4. Hey Gregory, thanks for the reply. Could you tell me what company provides you with the worldwide replacement coverage? Thanks!
  5. Hello! My insurance is up for renewal and I'm wondering if there might be a better company out there than the one I've been working with. I'm currently with Tom C Pickard & Sons and pay around 2500/yr for $50K in owned equipment coverage with $1000 deductible and no rental insurance. I've researched others looking for a better deal but haven't been able to find anyone who could beat these numbers What companies do you all insure your gear with? Thanks for your responses!
  6. If anyone can spot the difference between a ZE and a CP then they are superhuman. You pay for the housing in the CPs, period. Optical quality is the same.
  7. I always shoot the C300 with the new Canon Wide DR picture profile. It gives me the most out of the camera and I dont have to worry about my 8-bit image falling apart in the coloring. Its really an amazing thing.
  8. Very interesting! I do a lot of handheld doc work and IS is always something that I'm looking for. If only they would develop a 2.8 zoom with IS... I would pay any amount of money for that...
  9. Rolling when I'm cutting, cutting when I'm rolling... THAT STILL HAPPENS TO ME SOMETIMES AND I SHOOT FOR TV!
  10. Hello! I'm wondering what you folks think about this. My goal is to use it sort of as a teaser on my website, in order to get producers to click through to my portfolio where I have projects in their entirety. I'm wondering if this is effective? Or maybe it looks amateurish? Or maybe the older producers out there who aren't used to ingesting media in bite size bits might have a seizure watching this? What are your thoughts?? Thanks :)
  11. FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT! I also considered working at a rental house when I first started out. I think the best way to develop your skills as a DP is through practice, and "just doing it". But there are bills to pay when you're just starting out and its going to be very challenging at first to find paying gigs, especially in the super saturated job market that is LA. Any job that puts you anywhere in the film world is preferable to, say, waiting tables. Working at a rental house is definitely great for making contacts, and a wonderful stepping stone for getting crew gigs and an especially good first step towards becoming a gaffer. That said, its also quite difficult to land a job at a rental house. My advice would be to take the initiative - spend a day driving around to every rental house in LA and introduce yourself to the managers and express your interest in working there. And, you know, charm them :) Fake it till you make it but feed yourself first. GOOD LUCK
  12. Just make it look good! And make it personal - it should show off your own unique style and taste. If you cut something together and you don't love it, then start again! Remember that producers are going to be looking through lots of reels and they have limited time. Definitely put your most amazing stuff at the start. My own reel acts as sort of a teaser to get people to click through to my portfolio, where I have complete projects posted. My reel is 60 seconds long with rapid fire shots - my goals is just to show producers as quickly as possible that I've done a lot of different (hopefully good) stuff. You can check it out here if you'd like: www.tadashi.tv GOOD LUCK! Share your reel when you've finished cutting it together!
