The heads are unused, new, still in the box genuine ARRI and have been purchased via an official distributor so full warranty etc will appply.

The ballasts are manufactured by Power to Light, a UK company who makes ballasts for HMI lights from 200W to 24kW.

The system is an M40 head, Barndoors, Lamp, Head to 50' (15.2m) ballast cable and 2.4/4kW electronic ballast.

The usual price for these is around £10K (US$15K) each

Thanks for the replies guys,

As far as manufacture goes I am very pleased to say that they are mostly UK made - even the PCB's - probably not the actual components on the PCB's.

The head is entirely UK manufactured and the ignitor and ballast are made by Power to Light who do all our electronics.

With regard to the ballast - Yes as standard we offer a 575/1200 flicker free electronic ballast. There will very soon be an option for a high frequency ballast.

However if you already have a 1200W ballast with ARRI connectors you can use that. We can also do other connector pinouts if required such as Strand or K5600.

Lenses - A good point and they can be available. The housing is our traditional tungsten 2kW Blonde modified for HMI. Yes there is a UV safety glass permanently fitted so not actually open face but as close to as you can get with HMI. We already offer a Fresnel lens and scrim sets. The reason we don't see a need for focusing lens sets is that the unit itself has a spot/flood mechanism so you can alter the beam angle without lenses. Additionally we never expected the unit to be used direct. We always had in mind that it would be bounced or passed through some form of diffusion. However having seen the quality of the beam from the final reflector design I am very pleased with how even the spread is so it could be used direct.

These are provisional figures measured using an un anodised reflector.

The final version should be around 10% higher.

Hi Phil,

We were the first to launch plasma into this market beating Hive by just a few months.

Spectrally plasma is outstanding. As close to natural daylight as you are likely to get in a man made source.

In terms of efficiency we found plasma to be better than HMI but not enough to counter some of the other issues .

In our opinion the many advantages of plasma do not out weigh the current disadvantages such as hot re-strike and instability in the beam at certain angles.

There are other factors but I do not want to dwell to much on them as plasma has great potential.

We have not given up on plasma - just the format offered by Luxim, is in our opinion, not the best for image capture use.

We are working with another manufacturer of plasma sources to develop a line more suited to our market.

Hi Tom,

We have a Plasma light we can show you - for a number of reasons we feel it is commercially un-viable so we never put it into production.

It uses the same source as the Hive units but in a very different housing.

Any time you are free just give the factory a call. It is in Leighton Buzzard so not too far from you.

We can show you a full selection from tungsten, fluorescent, LED, HMI and plasma.

Why fluorescent - quality of light output and repeatability between fixtures.

The square One can me mains or battery powered, tungsten or daylight.
