  1. What kind of shooting do you want to do? I think my Glidecam would fit nicely into a large suit case, but it might be too big to carry around for you? A small tripod could do the job, but if you want moving shots, not that useful.
  2. A lot of people with experience here, so maybe someone can elaborate a little bit on the process on budgeting. Would you say the budget is usually decided by the client, and then the production company works around that, or does the production company give the client a price based on execution of a concept or idea?
  3. While I agree, that is more of a personal opinion than anything else. As already stated, that trailer didn't make me want to see the movie. Good job on making your first feature though.
  4. Yeah, I can see that now. It wasn't especially cold outside or inside though, but those dinos get insanely hot. Should definitely have opened the window. I guess this could just be a heads up to anyone else.
  5. So, maybe someone here has experienced this before, but I really didn't expect this. We put a 5k dino outside a bedroom, blasting it through the window. It was placed about 5-10cm from the window. Apparantly things got too hot, and the window broke. I call this a learning experience, but I honestly didn't expect it to happen. It definitely put a good dent in our budget. Maybe this can serve as a warning to others too.
  6. You'd really rather want a Blackmagic over a DSLR. The image quality is on another level. It's all in the detail and dynamic range. I've shot on 5d2, 7d and now the BMC2,5. If you can afford it, I would also look at the a7s2, which has the internal stabilizer and 4k@100mbps. I'd take that over the BMC. Blackmagic has had huge problems with their sensors and customer support. I would not really feel comfortable buying a URSA mini myself. My BMC also shows some problems in lowlight at 1600iso. No problems at 800 though. As already stated, it boils down to use.
  7. For sale, an Angenieux 12-120 2.2 in good condition. Sold with adaptor for M43. Original mount is Arri-B. Both aperture, zoom and focus rings are smooth and in good shape. Minor scuffs here and there, but nothing that affects the image. This lens flares beautifully. I can ship worldwide. $390 + shipping.

  10. Not really. It's so subtle that it's unlikely anyone will notice. The detail on these DSLRs is quite poor anyways, as the image is soft. As I said, and which you seem to ignore; it's not worth the upgrade from your current camera. The only worthy upgrade would be GH4, BM(P)CC, a7s, C100.
  11. They are really quite similar. They have the exact same sensor size.
  12. That has to be on FCXP. I have seen tests going the other way on Premiere. A $1000 pc outplayed a $3000 Mac pro. Now, I work on PC, but I have nothing against Macs, but to say that Macs are better in every situation, might be misleading. Usually, I think you will get more performance per dollar on PCs. Also, I just checked some videos of the Pentax K01. I don't believe your money is well spent on a new camera. A t51 or 7d is not going to be a whole lot better than the Pentax. I think money is better spent on rig equipment like a Glidecam, a decent tripod, ND filter etc. That equipment usually costs the same or more than the camera. Heck, good glass is also equally important. It's the old boring answer, but good films doesn't just come out of the camera. It's the people behind the camera.
  13. Thank you for your elaborate answer. But as you can see in my original post under here, we had a fixed location. Now, for future referance, I will just have to set these kind of shoots for another time of the day. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible this time. Oh well.
  14. For that price, it doesn't really get much better than the 5dmk2 or 7d. They both produce good images. Slightly soft, but still good images. You can shoot any framerate up to 25p with Magic Lantern, and I never had any problems with that as long as I shot on DSLRs. Also, lens availability is great, and they can handle a lot of abuse. An alternative can be BMPCC or GH3, as you mentioned. These are all 1080p cameras with decent image quality for the price. With a good story, these cameras are not going to be the deciding factor if the movie is good or not.

  17. Most of the work I have gotten from doing cold calls and approaching businesses in person. Naturally, I get some work from the contacts I make that way.

  19. You don't necessarily have to overexpose. There are ND filters.
  20. I commented that as an actual owner of the camera. I am really looking forward to upgrading to the URSA, which is quite affordable on the used market now. There is one going for about $4000 here in Norway now.
  21. The thing that irritates the poop out of me on the BMC, is the lack of slowmo. I mean, how hard could it be, the iPhone has it. I realize it is an issue of cooling, but please, 60p would satisfy me. Other than that, it has a lovely image, but it does need an external battery pack. The internal runs out in under an hour.
  22. I ran into a problem on a shoot I did today. On the outside shots, I wanted to diffuse the sunlight, of course. I had a 2x2 meter diffuser, but I couldn't get it high enough for it do diffuse the whole scene. The sun was pretty much in the middle of the sky, and we were going for quite a high-key look. We are definitely shooting on a very tight budget. Is there any sensible way of doing this, or will I need a lift and a bigger frame in the future? I guess another alternative is shooting later in the day. The scene was set in the outside area of the restaurant with tables and chairs. We had 12 models on the shoot on three different tables. Any input appreciated!
