  1. Hello guys! I'm a filmmaker based in London, England and I wanted to share with you all my latest work. I'm very grateful for this site as I've learned a lot from here and met a lot of good people (and some bad ones too). It inspired me to do what I do and to be where I am.

So, I finished my second feature film called The Job, it was a complete hell to shoot as it was shot with one camera, one lens, and one light and entirely in two days. We shot 60 pages a day. I could say it was done because it was artistic call but I would be lying, as it was obviously because of the budget.

And I would really love to hear what you have to say. The film is inspired by Reservoir Dogs for the most part, with a gangster twist. Logline: When five guys robbed a bank, they thought that the robbery itself was the hardest part of the job. Here's a link to the trailer:

And here's a link to the film https://www.hankorion.com/thejob2017 (you can watch it for free with Amazon Prime).

We shot on Red Epic, and 35mm Samyang lens. I made a DIY LED light at home and brought it with me, then attached it to a broomstick and asked my friend to hold it.

    Thank you, guys!

  2. Almost anywhere in the world is a better bet than here. France, if you speak the language. India, China. There is a popular idea that there is a large and successful industry here. It is not true; the total number of people permanently employed in worthwhile camera-related jobs is a few hundred nationwide, and the job openings are a handful a year.

    P

Well then I'd better be in the rows of those few hundreds then

  3. Hello friends! Oh my, don't know where to start. I've been shooting for a while now and traveling. I ended up in London, England and I decided to settle down here. I have more than five years of experience and been working in the US, Italy, Ukraine and here in the UK on some gigs. I really want to pursue my career and eventually become a DP at some point. I'm hard working and a good chap in general if you ask people :) For now I'm trying to get some work as a camera assistant but I don't know anybody here. I would really love the opportunity to meet new people. Please share some advice if you can! Thanks so much.

  4. Hello guys, I have this Switronix Powerbase battery I've been using for the past few years or so but suddenly it died on me. I can't turn it on or charge at all even when left for a day on a charge. There's no light that comes on or anything like that. For all the time I've been charging it official Switronix D-Tap charger, not V mount charger. It's been working fine until now. Please advice. I can't see any reset button on the battery.

  5. No, it was first-past-the-post, not PR. 52-48% to leave.

And no, Scotland will not stay in, it will exit as part of the UK.

That what I heard too. And yes. It will separate from UK. I don't think honestly that UK will exist. As soon as Scotland leaves, Ireland will too.

  6. Me personally speaking I'm a little disappointed about all that Brexit but what can I do. I had production company in London but I've started process of packing and moving to Italy slowly. Cheaper rent and overall still EU, since most of my clients were from EU. And, great weather of course where we will be based from May 2018. The good thing is that Scotland will be part of EU, and they have great scenery too.

  7. Without a customs deal post Brexit, all those UK companies working the concert circuit will have a tough time moving from country to country everyday to a new venue, with a convoy of trucks full of lights, sound systems and staging.

But that's what English people wanted, or am I wrong here? Notice I said English, not British.

  8. The other option not discussed here is often you can drop ship items to your destination, but to be completely honest it is often substantially easier to rent gear locally whenever possible. It's cheaper than a Carnet and the baggage fees for the most part, and certainly less hassle

Else when flying through carnet countries get a carnet

I second china not being worth the hassle for the most part for the temporary import and export (they still have my 5D which they thought was too professional!).

    That's ridiculous

  9. Here's a list of countries which use the carnet system.

    http://www.atacarnet.com/carnet-countries

European citizens traveling in Europe have freedom of movement, so traveling with gear shouldn't be a problem. Bringing gear from a non European country might be a problem.

Even countries which don't use the carnet system will have some sort of customs procedure to allow temporary import of gear without incurring import duties. It varies greatly from country to country, and there are some where it's just not worth the effort to bring gear with you (from personal experience, Russia, China, and India)

    Thanks.

  10. Customs officials don't always check your cases. If they do check, and you don't have a carnet, you could find yourself liable for hundreds or even thousands of dollars in import duties unless you can show that you already owned the equipment before leaving the country. They can confiscate your gear until you either prove it or pay up.

    Whaaat. Damn.
